I was a bit surprised to be asked to take the assignment, which is to locate new resource rich areas that New Republican miners can exploit outside of the core systems. I was even more surprised to find that Tefnutet is leading the team, funded mostly by the scientific team working for him. Well at least he isn't huddled naked with a bomb and that Guardian relic powder he has a thing with snorting. Either way I haven't put the Anaconda I'd had outfitted to take these pukes on expeditions in the first place hasn't properly been put through her paces, so I suppose this is a good time to do so. Upon mention of "wanting to see" Sag A it piqued my interest, It has been some years but I stopped over there once before. Initially I had refused, not wanting to be away from Draguan Nu for an extended time. Luckily Gein has been in command of a fleet a few times before, and that old Englishman is nobody to mess with despite acting like a gentleman.
Speaking of stopping over in Sag A a few years back, apparently Tefnutet had gone to the shipyard without my knowing and put the idea in Sam's head, and by the time I got there to talk to him about it he was already tuning up the research vessel and getting ready to install the fighter bay, likely at Tefnutet's request. He went with me in the past, though he had opted to accompany Breez since there wasn't any room aboard my DBX. Since I'm taking an Anaconda instead he had already decided to come along, it will be nice to have a buffer between me and Tefnutet's tendency to be rather spastic at times.
At times? Who am I kidding? Who knows what snorting glowing blue alien relic powder does to you over a couple of years?
As I write we have already departed the Inner Orion spur, having stopped off in the California Nebula first to do some scans before turning towards our destination. Luckily we have already found some great locations, and we are nearing the first waypoint of the trip. As boring as silicate vapor vents are to me, Tefnutet had me set down here for a few hours so that he could run some tests on the weird shit that's growing on them. I told him it was Silly Putty. It also gives Sam some time to recalibrate the nav computer, as it has been acting buggy since we left home. The scanner array on this ship is sub-par to Sigrun's, but he guarantees it will work until we get to Ratraii. If I continue to use it closer to the core he joked that it would likely cuss me up once side and down the other before smacking the ship sideways and walking out the airlock. Too bad Skuld got destroyed in the Pleiades sector or we could've mounted those on the Anaconda instead.
Perhaps I'm being too sentimental about a death trap piece of shit that had better electronics than mechanical components.
Either way we likely won't be departing until the planet completes orbit in a couple of days, and this tidally locked rock is likely to fuck with their heads with no night cycle. I'll be checking back in shortly before takeoff, and will keep the ranks posted if there is anything interesting. In the meantime tell the Captain to not make too big a mess out there with all the fun he is having in the extraction zones.
