CMDR’s Log, 3304.05.10, Sol Calendar; We saw home today! It seems that the Federation has seriously started to acknowledge the importance (and the sheer quantity) of extra-solar data that I've been feeding to them. Not only has deep space exploration proven to be so lucrative that the proceeds have gotten us out of the 400,000 CR debt we accrued with my folly, but I've also been able to update our power distributor, re-paint the hull, retrofit the exterior armor and sensor arrays (for which I had to visit the intergalactic currency exchange because the technicians refused to accept galactic credits and would only take Earth USD for some reason), and upgrade to a MUCH NEEDED 1A life support system.
But more importantly; after I received my "Ranger" accreditation from the Pilot's Federation, my Lieutenant Commander called me into her office in the capitol system Rhea at Balandin Gateway and told me that the Admiralty had come to the conclusion that I should be granted the rank of Petty Officer and allowed access to Sol for my efforts. She also informed me that the offices of the Shadow President herself were watching my progress with extreme interest. She congratulated me, handed me my rank and walked me out.
Needless to say, my wife and I frame shifted to Sol as soon as the work was completed on the Pride of Afrika's hull. And when we jumped into the system and saw Afrika in the light of our sun again for the first time, Na'Kimuli, my wife, very nearly cried. I pulled her close, held her long, and we made love over the Afrikan sky.
I've already contacted the authorities at Abraham Lincoln station in order to obtain DOD quarters (might as well live on the government's dime where we can), and I've either virtually liquidated or sent for the ship modules that we've had stored at other stations. Sol is now officially our home again...which segued directly into a fight between my wife and I.
I initially joined the Federal Navy to get us home. And I achieved that goal. And we'd agreed that afterwards I'd leave and we'd go independent again. But, I've seen in my time serving that the Shadow President isn't all talk.
The fact that I've been able to serve and further the Federation's goals and protect our home without having to kill A SINGLE enemy of the state, opposing military enlistee, meddling government official or anything of the like. And that got me thinking...
Maybe I could stay. At least for a while. It couldn't hurt to stay. We're doing good for Earth and we're doing it without killing everything we run across. And while Na'Kimuli disagreed with me, in the end, I think she supports me. And I love her for that.
...Who knows? Maybe if things keep going as well as they are, maybe I'll even request a slot in the Federation's Officer Training Program...
