Something Worth More than a Single, Stupid Man
New born baby’s skin, ain’t nothin’ like it in the ‘verse. Untouched by pain, hatred, or loss. Kid’s gonna be a smart, I can see that much by the way she’s interested in the world around her. Eyes are dartin’ round, like she’s takin’ note of everything. Then she looks at me, and the little bugger smiles. Maybe she likes me, or maybe I just look funny.
All hell is comin’ down outside the ship and the second she looks at me, she thinks everything's alright. Wish I had your faith, kid. Thargoids jumped The Gnosis, the Megaship I boarded to fly into the unknown, and they don’t screw around.
I hand the baby back to her mother. Most of the parents made their way here, thank God. But, there are a few that haven’t. The kids here are gettin’ ready to board a Dolphin emergency transport to get the hell outta here. If the parents aren’t here, the kids are gonna run off. I can’t let that happen.
