The need to improve. Why?

"I want to be the strongest warrior!"
"I want to be the richest person alive!"
"I want to be the deadliest assassin!"
"I want to be a hero of justice!"
They have a need to be better than what they currently are. In most cases this is a good thing. This need for self-improvement drives people to do amazing things. It can be an admirable trait that can inspire many.
However, one should not loose themselves to this desire. To forsake all else and only follow a singular narrow path of improvement is to throw away one's humanity. Through this horrific tunnel vision, people do terrible things to one-another.
We must remember that in our quest to push ourselves past our limits, we must ask the question: "Why?"
Why must I fight to be strong? Why must I gain such wealth? Why must I perfect the art of killing? Why must I become a hero? Why?
Eventually you have to make hard decisions to improve or else you hit a wall. In order to become stronger you must put yourself in more dangerous situations. Will you then only fight to the death? To gain more wealth you must cut costs that eat at your bottom line. How many people will you climb over and ruin? In order to perfect your killing art, you must kill many. When do you stop caring about the type of people you kill? In order to be a hero, you must save many. What will you do when you realize that you can't save everyone?
Never stop asking yourself "Why?"
Me? Well, I desire to become strong so I can protect the people I care about. I wasn't strong enough before...
However, that was another time and another life.

I should get on the comms and ask Endincite how well my report to the Emperor was received.
Meanwhile, I think I'll help out in LHS 3447. There has been a call for a new station to be built and negotiations for a temporary peace between the Empire and the Federation have started. Although this peace is for the construction of the station, I truly hope that we can achieve real peace in the near future for all of mankind.
I have a bad feeling that there are more sinister things in the galaxy then humans.
