Kara Walden and Hudson Death Rattle

Listen hard, I want to talk about sound. Ha, see what I did there? Whatever, anyway, sound. Its very important and a lot more complex than you might think but also simple and beautiful.
So, do you know what the Harmonic Series is?
No ok, well here is the technical bit. You’re going to need this to understand why I’m currently playing Singularity Death Metal music into the Feds snooping network.
Sometimes I love my work.
Well, anyway the Harmonic Series is a sequence of pitches that are pure, fundamental sounds that are mathematically related to the next pitch and the one after that and after that and on and on and on. Since forever people have been playing around with the mathematics behind the Harmonic Sequence and thinking they were really clever by using the ratios in their architecture and art and saying things like “its in balance with all creation,” and what not.
What-ever, the real fun starts when you lay overtones or other sine waves onto your Fundamental harmonic sequence. Some people call these layered sounds music. Every note you hear from any instrument is really just a combination of a fundamental pitch with other Harmonics over the top. It might sound good, but from a mathematical perspective the sound is now no longer pure but is messy.
But of course, when you break it down you still have at the heart of it a mathematical sequence.
And if you mix the right Overtones with the right Fundamentals you can make sounds which don’t sit well with your ears but whose mathematical pairings do sit well with Spies and people who want to keep their secrets from the snoops in the Federation.
So when they turned on their “Terrorist” finder last month I figured I had better up my game on the encryptions. I started a band, a Singularity Death Metal Rock band. The music sucks, it is truly awful but people buy it and every time I release a new track I get to communicate with my friends across the galaxy without fear of the Feds catching on where I’m going to be next.
Also, I have a feeling they really hate it when I hook into one of their “secret” listening posts and blast them with it at full volume. I mean, I have to give them the chance of finding me right?
So, next time you are looking for some privacy, look me up and buy one of my albums.
The band name? Oh right yeah,
Hudson Death Rattle.
