Final preparations for Cone Sector

3304 September 04, TuesdayI feel totally under-equipped for Thursday's jump into the permit locked zone. I've been scrambling to make some decent preparations since I realised, just a few days ago, that the Gnosis doesn't have a shipyard. Serves me right for not doing my research.
The plan was to take my Challenger to fight some thargoids, with it's large shard cannon and three Gauss cannons. Then I'd have my Viper to help with any terrorists or other ne'er-do-wells who came along. Once sent to a detention centre, they'd have a hard time getting back to us.
I've also been practising tackling thargons with the Viper. I was disappointed by the performance of the shard cannons against them, but with a pair of flak launchers I can shred a swarm pretty fast. After this adventure I mean to try some sturdy frag cannons, but I don't really hold out much hope for them.
Finally I'd have my trusty old DBX for scientific research, and mindlessly tagging the galaxy.
But there is no shipyard, so I'll only have my Diamondback. I don't want to be too hopeless against the thargoids, so I've fitted a pair of flak launchers. It's not as fast or as tough as my Viper, but maybe I can at least provide a distraction. I took it down to Witch Head to try and get some practice, but I couldn't find any 'goids. I'm sure they were in the area when the expedition passed through in July. I don't think I'll have time to go to the Pleiades now.
I've just recieved delivery of some hull reinforcements and a large guardian plasma charger too. And I used the remote workshop to toughen up my shields and armour. I think I can help, it'd just be nice to train in advance.
All I can really do now is try to calm my nerves.
