12 July 3304 - Unsteady Relations

Logbook Entry #4Date: 12th of July, 3304
That was the last run of fucking palladium I'll ever do for those assholes at Borelly Hub. I was a bit suspicious with the tons of Reactive Armor and Non-lethal Weapons they wanted, but the station was under empire jurisdiction. Soldiers gotta defend themselves somehow.
I come back to Purungurawn only to find a 'pirate' waiting to interdict me. IN A GODDAMN ANACONDA! Pirates don't have big budgets. They get loot, they get more loot, get hunted down, end of the line. Someone hired him to off me and make sure I wasn't coming back to the station. Someone that knew me and what I was carrying.
That bastard Riyad. He was willing to kill me to pay someone else a quarter of the price just to save a few credits. So help me if I ever saw his face back at the Hub, I would of shoved a grenade right up his ass.
I managed to make it back to the Hub in one piece but the show didn't end there. I had a personal contact for the leaders in control of everything here. If someone could help me out in this situation, it was him. I knew certain people here were going to expect me floating in space, so I had to keep low until then. Handed the dockmaster a few mil in credits and told her it be a shame if she locked the doors to my hanger when I was gone. She nodded quitely and pulled me aside to say something before letting me go.
"As far as I know, you left the day after and I never saw you here again."
So much for calling this place home. I walked off to the market to grab something to eat. Haven't had anything to eat for almost a day now. With the bustle of people coming and going, it was a perfect place to blend in. I'm still not sure what's up with people here, but gossip isn't their forte. I ordered a bowl of soup. It had a few chunks of synthetic meat and the broth tasted fine. I silenty chewed while watching the hours go by.
Eventually midnight started coming around and the lights were being dimmed. It was time to pay my contact a visit before I ditched the station for good. I made my way down to the 'upper class' portion of the station...if you can call it that. I tried not to look back as I made my way to his living quarters. The paranoia was starting to get to me. The longer I stayed here, the more I wanted to run away. Getting the help I wanted could end up getting me killed for good.
The walk there took longer than expected. I was starting to worry if someone saw me. I shook off the feeling and made my way to the complex. 6th floor, last door on the left. Everyone must of been asleep by now. Could only hear the hum of the air conditioner in there. I knocked on the door once and waited. After a few minutes, a voice came out of the intercom.
"It's against station's policies to bother an official after hours. This better be good."
"I'm sure it is, Finnlay." I retorted.
After a few moments of silence, the door swung open. I walked in and casually took a seat in the living room as Finnlay closed the door behind me.
"You uh, want something to drink?" he asked, pointing to the bottle on the table.
"Sure." I said with hesistation. He sat down next to me and poured out 2 glasses. I can't remember how long we sat there not saying anything, but Finnlay eventually took the initiative to start first.
"CMDR Scar... we've known each other for some time. You're one of the few people we rely on to get us supplies for the station. I can't thank you enough for that. I just wish that was the same for the other contractors around here."
I stared at my drink. Swishing it around as I listened to him. I could tell he was a bit uneasy as he kept going.
"Working with the Empire under her highness, Aisling Duval, is considered a relatively calm life. Nothing happens around here. Most enemeis you encounter are thugs hired from rivaling factions and sometimes... from the people who hire you."
"Look. Get to the point." I took a sip and laid my drink down.
"That smug fuck-face, Riyad, one of YOUR guys that works for the 'Empire' tried to kill me to save himself some money. Nothing ever goes under the noses of you guys and you just let him walk right off and hire someone to kill me."
His gaze shifted downwards, "It's not my call." he said softly, "I don't run this station. If I could of warned you about this, don't you think I would?" His head continued to hang down low as he pulled something out from his pocket and handed it to me.
I stared at the chip and piece of paper for a bit. Before I could get a closer look, he grabed my attention again. "Your services are well worth the pay; however, I do believe you are to be compensated for more."
He pointed at the chip, "Sanctioned by the Imperial Navy for your outstanding servive. Think of it as an increased benefits check." He laid back into the sofa and stretched his arms out.
"It may or may not contain enough to purchase something like, let's say, a Type-9. Enough to perhaps get you to a station that's able to get you one and supports outfitting capabilites for it."
He let out a short sigh. I could tell the indirect speaking wasn't something he liked. "Good Enterpise."
"Excuse me?" I inqured.
He laid down a projector on the table and brought up the 'Bubble.' He pointed to a section owned by Li Yong-Rui. "Good Enterprise. Go there. They're expecting you. After that go that location I wrote down for you after seeing someone else along the way. You'll want these for that." he said as he placed down 3 odd objects on the table.
He stood and motioned me to follow him as he walked back to his bedroom. I quickly grabbed everything and stuffed them in my pockets before I rushed over.
"Elvira Martuuk is a stuck-up bitch of an engineer, but she's a damn good one that happens to owe me a favor. A bit secretive on her location so I've uploaded it to your ship."
He stopped in front of the door to his bedroom. "Give her those and tell her your shield generator is leaking. She knows what to do from there. And CMDR."
He paused a bit before looking back at me, "People tend to cut corners around here. Cutting people they shouldn't, but you're not one of them. I do suggest you consider working for a different allegiance once you have what you desire from the Empire. Mr. Rui is always looking for new applicants." he said while glancing towards the hologram back at the table.
He turned around and opened the door to his bedroom. "It's going to be a while before this place gets better. It's just a damn shame we never knew what happend to you."
After getting the message across, he closed the door. I let myself out and hurried back to my hanger. Sure enough, Finnlay's contacts held up their end of the bargain and arranged for all of my equipment and ships to be transferred to the new location I specified. Elvira was a bit irritated, as far as holding a shotgun to a guy's head goes, but I managed to walk away with a modified generator after I mentioned Finnlay.
All of this, and now I'm here almost a week later. One heck of a base. I'm not sure how Finnlay knew about this place. Just outside the bubble and barely any pirates in site flying around in the system. Even if there is, I doubt they'll have an easy time getting through this ship.
This is CMDR Worvern Scar. Concluding Logbook Entry #4. Current situations are:
- Reloaction and new outfitting complete
- Docked at Leif Enterprise
- Personal quarters suprisingly comfy... gotta thank Finnlay for this
- Imperial Navy requesting my presence back at Cubeo tomorrow. Another job I'm guessing.
