So I'm finally back to the Sevantya, just returned from the Med-Bay and got my wounds patched up, lots of stitches and a few bullets removed, now I can finally lay down and have some rest. This last job was pretty much a suicide mission but somehow I managed to pull it off, so here is how the story goes: Some hotshot corporate guy in Leesti was looking for someone to retrieve some very sensitive data he somehow managed to forget on the terminal of the room he stayed in some fancy ass rich people hotel in the Reorte system, so far so good right? Just a small retrieve job, but here is when he start explaining the details, lemme put the recording from the suit on:

Tosh V: Seems like a simple job, I wonder why you are paying so much for it, what is the catch?
[REDACTED]: Well Mr. Vraugen, you see, the hotel is currently under maintenance, my contact said the hotel will remain closed for another day or two until the maintenance crew finishes their job, place is locked tight and the Power Center has been deactivated. However right now there is no one at the site, the maintenance guys left a couple hours ago but they will be back tomorrow, so now is the time to go there.
Tosh V: Alright, do you have a Power Regulator to reactivate the Power Center?
[REDACTED]: I'm afraid not, honestly I'm just a business man I don't know about this technical stuff, you will have to figure out how to get this done, that is why I'm paying you right?
Tosh V: Right... but it will cost you more.
[REDACTED]: That won't be a problem, now hop into that ship and get to that hotel and to the terminal at Habitat Building 4, I really need that data! Chop-Chop!
Tosh V: You got it Mr. [REDACTED], I should be back soon.
[REDACTED]: Oh and one more thing, maybe you will find some small resistance there, nothing too dangerous I bet...
Tosh V: Didn't you say the place would be empty?
[REDACTED]: Well yeah, but, you see, I'm an important man, and a man like me have plenty of enemies, so let's say some competitors are after this data aswell, so be ready to go pew-pew or whatever you merc types do.
Tosh V: That will cost you more too, now before I go, is there anything else you are forgetting to mention?
[REDACTED]: Nope, that is all, good luck pal.

So there I was, about to board my ship, with a job from a very annoying and shady rich dude, but as Frederick used to say "A job is a job, and once you take it, you either finish it or die trying." I boarded the Stinger, my Viper Mk3, put on my Maverick Suit and jumped to Reorte. I have done these type of jobs before, but from the start I knew something was wrong, and boy, I was right, just as I landed in the "empty hotel" I was ambushed by about 17 mercs, probably hired by the rich dude competition. This is the "small resistance" I met there:

Thanks to the low gravity of the planet and the suit jump assistance module, I managed to escape the ambush, but not even 2 minutes later, two dropships dropped another 12 of the bastards in that damned hotel, so it was I versus 29 heavily armed men, the gunfight was long, every corner I turned there was at least two of them waiting for me already firing their weapons, I could feel the laser blasts slashing the suit and some of the bullets piercing my body, luckily these suits are tough, not like a Dominator which is built for war, but it managed to keep me alive. I was so focused in staying alive and taking down these mercs that I didn't even pay attention for how long the fight dragged on, I shot the last one trying to board my OWN ship, and when his body fell in the Viper Mk3 stairs, silence... finally.

After the shooting was over, I checked each of the mercs bodies, some had bounties, others not, and their leader had a microchip with the instructions to retrieve the same data I was looking for, not much details in it, but clearly it was someone way smarter, and richer, than the guy I was working for, sending an entire crew like this must have been expensive, but in the end, skill beat numbers, that is what Frederick always told us back in the day... With the hotel finally cleared of the mercs I could proceed with the mission, turning in the Power Center and recovering the data was the easy part, and as a bonus the place was full of juicy equipment and loot ready to be taken, too bad the maintenance crew would have a lot more work to do when they return there, place was carved with bullet holes and blood, not to mention the 29 corpses that would need to be removed.

As the Powe Center was in the process of being shut down, so I could retrieve my power regulator, I decided to take a seat at the bar, there was no one there anyway, so free drinks and snacks for poor ol' me, these fancy hotels really have the good stuff. I tried to patch my wounds with a medkit I found at the bar but things were ugly, I would need to get to a doctor ASAP, luckily a strong drink makes the pain go away for a while... I barely made it to the Stinger but the job was completed, I returned to Leesti, and the bastard wasn't even there, I had to deliver the data to his secretary or whatever that girl was, at least the pay was right, a fat credit transfer and some very hard to find data chips used by those greedy engineers to upgrade suits and weapons. A job that shouldn't have taken more than 20 minutes, actually took almost 2 hours to complete due to all the crap I had to go through in that hotel...another day, another job I guess, even if it was pretty much a suicide mission... the wounds still hurt a lot but they should start feeling better by the morning or until the painkillers Dr. Amina provided worn out, oh and a note to self: "Avoid getting suspicious jobs from rich morons"... Tosh Vraugen, signing out.
