A New Chapter

The corridor leading to the Operation control building past the lower barracks seemed different today. The pathside uplighters a little brighter, the decorative flora hanging from the huge reinforced struts smelled a little sweeter.Walking away from the docked Cobra toward the Sap Core headquarters returning salutes to young 'up and coming' recruits of the future with an extra air of pride.
"Retinal scan and facial recognition sequence in process" said the voice from the comms terminal next to the elevator, "scan complete, permission protocols updated, access granted commander".
Looking at the floor selection screen, the once red symbol for floor 9 'Brigadeers Base' was now lit green.
Upon stopping, the elevator doors opened to reveal a well furnished room with an automated bar serving all of the local favourites and a good number of rare beverages from all over the galaxy.
Sat studying the latest AX combat strategies and listings of Thargoid infestations was Redivivus, leaving no stone unturned with a striking attention to detail about all things bug related and how to destroy them!
Just beyond him, sat a man looking at a number of data panels and screens with a selection of charts, databases and political standings of a number of factions and groups within a close perimeter of sap space. Mack never took a day off!!
Two voices in conversation stole my attention toward the bar area.
"Fuckin' right ya buyin tae next round, I dunae know when the last time ye paid for one!!"
Melv propping up the bar with 1 empty and 1 half finished bottle of Leestian Evil Juice with an ironic warning on the label "consumption of more than 5 small glasses is strictly not advisable".
Eva just glared at him, whilst holding an odd looking drink which appeared to mainly consist of fermented frog spawn?!
"That's because you're too pissed everytime it's my round, you've a short memory!" She laughed.
Evaldo was connected. If there was somebody you needed to speak to / buy from / have killed, Eva either knew them or somebody else that knew them! Only the brave or stupid think they can get one over on her without suffering some kind of "accident".
"Conuvus! Come over for a wee drrinnk son!" Melv yelled across the room.
Conuvus looked tired, a smudge of thick ash across his brow from the constant trucking of repair materials needed by the reconstruction teams at Mendez Terminal. It was almost like when Mendez was attacked it took a bit of Conuvus with it. Maybe it was the loss of civilian lives or just the callous nature of the Thargoid attacks, but he was determined to not let it happen again.
Each with their individual skills that make the legion the powerhouse it is left me wondering where I fit into this complex collection of minds. What I do know, is what I lack in expertise I make up for with determination and a never say die attitude.
Viva SCL!
