Earlier this week, the Praetor Council of Lavigny's Legion had announced a failure in diplomatic proceedings with an independent Imperial entity, the Extra Corporation. Extra Corp had initially been contacted regarding unwarranted warmongering in Imperial systems. Following this, an open war was declared.
The Extra Corporation, headquartered in the Goller system, has holdings and investments in a whopping 57 star systems across various Imperial territories. They have claimed to invest in local factions to promote Imperial prosperity. However, in recent times, they have also become majority shareholders in many of their systems, and have become a quasi-government in their own right; they now declare total control over thirty separate Imperial star systems. The plutocratic rule has been shaky, with some territories making Imperial naval presence in these systems impossible.
However, in the past week, Extra Corp. began a blanket smear campaign, deeming some well-established governments unfit for rule. In a public memorandum, Manager Gurakuqi-Rassmusen stated that the corporation "requires Naval assets in various to promote prosperity throughout E-Space, and this can only be achieved by seizing them from flawed leaders who mishandle them." These governments, such as the First Legion of Latuba (who conduct an arguably happier plutocratic governance) and the HIP 23641 Empire League, refused to cede their operations to Extra Corp. They responded by deploying a fleet and making larger demands, to which the Imperial Navy (including the private forces of Lavigny's Legion and the Chapterhouse of Inquisition) responded appropriately.
Among other demands, Extra Corp has requested unhindered operations in their own territory (called "E-Space" within the corporation). This demand is impossible, as there are numerous smaller forces within their systems that have preached or openly worked against Extra Corp rule. Notably, Goller Industries, a corporation in the Extra Corporation's home system, has accused Extra Corp of being an unchecked monopoly.
"We prospered well before they started inflating their stock prices," a Goller Industries media representative who wished to remain anonymous said in an interview from NCN earlier today. "Our main installation, Shaw Port, had to be sold because they began running our perfectly fine software products off the local market... we nearly went bankrupt, and now have a fraction of our original employment."
As the Extra Corp incursion spans multiple systems, they have deployed an impressive fleet of vessels, presumably to seize these Imperial assets by force. Currently, deaths number in the tens of thousands, with no official count yet. However, the factions fighting for their home space have been unrelenting in their resistance. Representative Kailee Parks of the First Legion of Latuba condemned the war:
"We will fight for our home until the end. The First Legion will not fall like countless other factions that had no choice. Extra Corp must surrender; their claims are abhorrently illegitimate. I am happy we are not alone in this endeavor; we will unite against them!"
The Legion is currently working with numerous other Imperial factions to trim E-Space away from sensitive Imperial territories. Orders will be released per usual comms channels.
