Running Errands

The past few days have been a tad dull, though I did get to do a bit of traveling. A good bit of the time was spent tracking down materials I'd need in order to work with the various Engineers on tweaking some modules on my ships. One of my "crew", can't remember which of the AI it was, was quite excited about it all. She was more than happy to plot out a course for me to the different people we needed to visit along with rambling on and on about them. She left out the part about how boring mining and scanning wakes could be though.Having never done any mining before, I did some checking around to see what I'd need for just some basic work then refurbished the Odyssey Angel and set out. It wasn't quite as difficult as I thought it might be, just a tad tedious, with the hardest part being judging just when to drop from supercruise near the rings so I didn't have a long trip to get to a decent work site. I did find it kind of amusing watching the limpets dart out and come running back with their load though. Gathering data from wakes was a different matter. Not wanting to just lurk around a station, I decided to hop back into the La Bruja and headed out to the nav beacon where with a bit of multitasking I not only got some data from wakes but also managed to pick up a decent amount in bounties. Like they say, kill two birds with one stone.
After all the "fun" of gathering mats and the multi-hops to and from the engineers I decided to head back to Hamilton Gateway and relax a bit. I still have a good amount of work I need to do but I did manage to do a bit of tweaking to several of my ships that has paid off quite well so far. Anyway, so I'm trying to relax in the lounge at Hamilton and I see this fella come in. He has that "Hi, I'm a super chatty person" look about him so I try to blend into the booth I'm sitting in, hoping he doesn't notice me. My usual luck came into play though as he locked eyes with me, smiled, and came trotting right over to me. I really need to work on my "I'm not in the mood, stay the hell away from me please" expression I guess. So he plops himself down and starts rambling on about what he's been doing since he left Lave a couple months ago. As I'm about to nod off from his droning, he suddenly point his fingers at me and says "Courier jobs". I'm like "Huh?". He says "Courier jobs, that's what you should be doing." and then proceeds to tell me how he's been doing courier missions for the Federation and how those jobs are getting him in good with the Federal Navy.
I finally managed to get away from him and sneak back to the La Bruja. Once there though I have to admit I did get curious so I had the AI pull up some info for me. Much to my surprise there actually are some advantages to dealing with the Federal Navy. System permits, access to ships, etc. So I hopped into the Destiny and headed off to a couple systems I'd heard had a good bit of work to offer. Overall it was rather simple and uneventful. Just take same data from point A to point B. Doesn't get much easier than that I guess. Had a few instances of someone trying to interdict me, I assume they wanted the data I was carrying, but it was all good and ended up with me collecting a nice bounty on them. The money isn't the greatest but was enough to cover expenses and still have a bit left over. I guess they were pleased with my work as I received some comms telling me I'd been promoted. I guess I'm now officially a Cadet in the Federal Navy. Not seeing any of the supposed benefits yet though so I did some more digging and found out I've got a bit of work ahead of me before any of it really starts to pay off. I'd never really planned to get involved in any political or military type endeavors but now that I've gotten my feet wet I guess I may as well take the plunge.
