CQC Elite

So...  The journey began August 2019.

Going in as a noob.  The first CMDR that killed me?  Dek.  I watched in wonder as all these high level players flew around me, whilst all along, my KD suffered,  And suffered.  And suffered...

I was sooooooo close to giving up.  Being repeatedly killed by higher level players, and feeling like I'd had a good day if I came out of a DM with 3 kills.

Slowly but surely - my skills improved.  Power Up's became the norm, and I began to increase my kill rate.

2 months in - semi-professional.
3 months in - Professional.

Christmas 2019 arrived.  As did the rank of Champion.

My first goal was hit - Prestige Rank 1, and access to the permit locked CQC Holdings system.

Prestige ranks came and went, but I kept hearing horror stories from other 'vets'.  "Prestige Rank 8 is just over half way to Elite".  That thought alone nearly made me quit.  As did Musketeer...  That guy.  As much as people dislike him, the guy is good.

10,000 kills felt like a major milestone.  Regular TDM's became the norm.  Blastard, Commie, Aqua, Glamis, Calv, Ranx, Steven Gift, Solsticide - all CMDR's who I killed in number, and got killed in return.  These guys helped shape my journey from Champion onwards.  The advice they gave me.  The encouragement.  The will to keep going.

I was a hero in February.

And then a legend around my birthday in May.  COME ON OBI - KEEP THIS UP!!!

Then came the Legend grind...  WHAT THE ACTUAL F***!!!!  20,000XP per 1%.  Another dark time in my grind.  Again, I nearly packed this dream in.

But slowly, surely, I found the will to keep going.  Daily goals - 1% a day, that's all I need.  Some days, where the kids and wife were out, I hit 2%.  Sometimes 3%. Never hit the Body Bag levels of 5% in one day!

September came and went.  Into the nervous 90's.  Newer up coming players in CQC were daily acquaintances - Pogo, Shrike, Pausanias, Beerz, and others.  But the old duffers were still there - CMDR Blastard, and co...

October arrived, and so did 99% on October 5th.

The day itself - OCTOBER 6th. TDM organised.  Ranx, Glamis, Aqua, Steven, and others.  The final TDM - with only 550XP needed.  The feeling of elation was unreal.  Knowing that I had ground this out for so long, and that it was about to come to an end, was a surreal experience.

TDM started, 5 kills in.  50XP needed.  Steven Gift in my sights, in his trusty eagle.  Shields down, hull down.  And....  BOOM.  Steven Gift down.  Elite Rank in CQC achieved.  Hands shaking.  TDM finished.  Screenshots posted - Glamis, Aqua, Ranx, Steven all passing their congrats.  22,634 kills later...  Makes main game combat look like child's play...

And then it hit me.  I have achieved Quad Elite.  Something that less than 30 CMDR's in the world have achieved.  And I never considered myself as a top level pilot.  I just stuck at this.  Set myself daily goals.  Bit by bit.  Don't give up, despite the loopers, despite the cheaters. keep going and the Quad dream can be achieved.

For all of you CQC'ers out there aiming for the same goal - Keep going my fellow CMDR's.  Despite my goal being met, I will still be in there, helping you all get over the line at some point...

And main game players also - I hope this encourages you.  For any goals you have in game - set realistic targets, and don't give up.  Hard work will bring you your rewards...

Obi out.  o7
