Spies like me

Had an interesting experience today. Sometimes my frameshift drive fails to lock on to a station and drops me a couple hundred kilometers from the station. This time, while waiting for it to cool down, an imperial eagle dropped nearby. The thing immediately turned and booked it. While it was fleeing, I started scanning it and then my sensors picked up a tight beam transmission that simply said, "You're too close, abort! abort!". He waked out right after that. If that transmission was meant for him, I shouldn't have been the one to pick it up. It shouldn't have even been possible. If it was for me, I have no idea what they're talking about or who sent it. So, assuming it was meant for my tail, the only way I could have intercepted it was if I just happened to be between the source and the target. But the only thing in that direction was empty space, which means it was too far away for me to see or detect. Probably a ship somewhere else in the system. At least, that's how handlers operate with their agents.
I ran a search on the ieagle's registry. Nothing. Registered to an imp named Blue Max. Low ranks across the board, no special records, no bounties, no criminal record, nothing. Now anyone who's been living in this galaxy and hasn't been under a rock (or spoon fed superpower propaganda their whole lives) knows why that's suspicious. Everyone in this galaxy has dirt on them. It might be cheesy dirt, but there'll be dirt nonetheless. A little more checking and sure enough, dead ends everywhere. Fake profile. Which means someone's been having fun with the Pilot's Federation database. Not like that's anything new. But it means I've got myself some new fans, and even better, they're rookie snoops. This'll be fun...
