Nature Break

I know I haven't posted one of these in a while. I'm out away from the bubble for a while. Not sure how long I'll be out here. It's nice though. No people, no problems, no violence. Just the deadly cold of space contrasted by the consuming fire of the stars. Planets dance their slow eternal dance, untouched by human hands, and the comms channels are quiet, giving way to the often melodic singing of celestial radio emissions. There are nights when I just relax in the zero-g mag pool looking out into space listening to the song of a nearby pulsar's radio emissions, or the soothing sussurus of ice geysers on a melting moon. It's a kind of peace created by chaos. In my Dolphin, I'm protected from all the horrible things that make up reality, for the most part, but I can still hear all those horrible things out there, thanks to my ship and my suits, and somehow that's comforting. Perhaps it's something primal. It goes back to our earliest memories, inherited through instinct over hundreds of thousands of years. The orange light of a campfire lighting up a cave with comfort and warmth while listening to the rain coming down outside, a kind of reassurance that no matter how bad it got out there, you were safe in your cave.
Maybe that's why humans are drawn to chaos, despite trying to bring order to everything. We are constantly in conflict with ourselves and our environment, and it's that struggle which gives us our strength and our fire. After all, if we were content with everything, there would be no reason to strive for something better, no reason to fight, no reason to explore, no reason to live.
Humans are funny creatures.
