Joining The Hive didnt give me a piece of mind. Although I killed hundreds of bugs, my efforts went mostly unnoticed. My attempts to join their ranks were largely ignored. All they gave were snippets of information from their message boards and other sites on how to outfit my ships. In their absence, I encountered another group, Hanks Alliance of Anti Xeno(HAAX). They set down with me and taught me how to kill interceptors. After joining HAAX for several anti-xeno raids, I learnt a alot about the thargoid interceptors. Eventually, I was able to properly bag a cyclops on my own. Too bad I cant keep the heart as a trophy. That thing is more toxic than the Hive Radio* fella! Darn near killed me!
In short, I think I've found a group I can work with.

*Hive Radio is run by a player. I do not have anything against him but did have a disagreement with him. It was one of several attempts to bond w The Hive which never worked. It felt stressful to be part of Hive, doing their AX cleanup, only to be reprimanded further by hive radio.
