THE BATTLE OF SHINRARTA DEZHRA

THE BATTLE OF SHINRARTA DEZHRAAfter returning to the front of the Thargoid war, commander Jav Marlo abandons the defence of the outposts in the Pegasi Sector to defend system Shinrarta Dezhra from a massive Thargoid invasion.
24 SEPTEMBER 3310, Rescue Ship Cornwallis, V866 Centauri system.
Six days ago, the largest Thargoid invasion fleet ever seen to this date invaded the Shinrarta Dezhra system. The Thargoids quickly wipe out all the ports and bases on the system with the exception of Jameson Memorial, that was heavily damaged but remained active rallying the meagre local AX forces.

The Orbis Starport had sustained heavy damages. The exterior hull was covered in corrosion, explosions and fire kept coming out from different points and a big section of the habitational ring had disappeared.

Luckily, it seems that the emergency force fields worked, preventing an even greater catastrophe. Anyhow, any civilian or personal not committed to the defence of the system is being evacuated to the nearby rescue ships.

After the usual first waves of Scouts and Interceptors, soon the Hydras arrived. And they came in waves of three, supported by other vessels. But the first wave of seasoned anti-xeno commanders had arrived too. The system comms filled with messages asking for a wing. All of them converging over the Hydras and taking turns to keep them away from the station.

Wave after wave we fought everything the Thargoids throw at us. Wave after wave we took turns to reload and refuel and returned to the battle. I must say that the commanders of the Pilots Federation put on a hell of a fight to defend the Founders World.

And we prevailed. Today, after six days of heavy combat, we can say that Shinrarta Dezhra resisted. There are no more waves of Thargoids incoming, and the surviving commanders are hunting the remaining interceptors in disarray through all the system.

But victory took its toll. Over 1600 commanders died, most of them holding the Thargoids during the first attack wave, until a proper resistance was organised. Yes, it is true that we saved Jameson Memorial. But, to me, this attack brings a very powerful message by the Thargoids. Jameson Memorial is not just a human hub and megamarket, it is the very heart of the Pilots Federation. And by attacking it the Thargoids are telling us that they know from where are we coming from. That they can strike us in our homeworlds. And we still have no idea where the Thargoids are coming from. Jameson Memorial is not any starport. It was named to honour the memory of the commander that won the last war against the Thargoids. Jameson Memorial is the most symbolic place the Thargoids could attack. And we do not know how to prevent them to do it again.

Aegis warned about a Thargoid counterattack after the fall of the last Titan. The Thargoids use some kind of portal technology that allows them to attack anyplace. But they did not chose to invade Delphi or Duamta, the headquarters of Aegis, not even Sol, the cauldron of humanity. They attacked Shinrarta Dezhra. And that was not by chance. They know. Aegis might be the shield protecting mankind. But the Thargoids know that it is us… killing them… it is us… hunting them using weapons infused with technology from their ancestral enemies, the Guardians. It is us, the independent commanders from the Pilots Federation, the ones that pose the greatest threat to them. And they still remember what one of us, commander John Jameson, did to them more than a century and a half ago.
