Commanders log, stardate 33020118.1: Distant Wings - Part 1This is my first log entry ever since the Distant Worlds expedition was about to emark and I haven't even gotten the time to sit down quietly and write down my thoughts. I signed up for the expedition immediately once I heard about it. Travelling to the far edge of the galaxy, crossing the core, with a fleet of hundreds and hundreds of ships, hoping to encounter signs of alien life, or new planets and materials ? Hell yeah !
But that did raise the question of preparation.. I chose to strip the Aristotle and transform it from a smuggling ship to an explorer prospecting ship. Yep. Prospecting. The name of my game. I don't know why I chose that role so quickly, the fleet commander was asking for such people because they want to create a "Jumponium highway". Damn. Sounds bloody awesome. So there I was, outfitting for this long voyage I rebranded the ship "Aristotle II", although I admit, its still good'old Aristotle for me.
The arrival of the launch date was a thrill. The expedition was announced to have 500 members one day and 600 the day after. 700. 800. Damn. They assigned me fleet roster nr 537. And they closed signups at 600. Wow. Just in time. And so my Distant Worlds profile was born.
The remaining 200 people were put in an overflow roster of some kind. In the end its one big mothafucka fleet if you ask me. And before I knew it I got tons of reading material on prospecting expectations and how to become "jumponiazed". Some guy called Akira leads us bunch. He's good alright. Seems to know everything about prospecting there is to know. Its not just him though. There is a whole bunch of smart ass people like me who I obviously like. Some of them are good. Really good. But don't bother me with the math stuff. Hell no. Thats like pokin' me with a needle in my head. Hurts to bloody much.
And then.. then there was launch day.
We departed from Palleini. Which is some kind of dust world if you ask me. But damn. Seeing corvettes and conda's flying in is damn scary.. and awesome. We launched together on a countdown none of will forget. None. It was epic. We started this journey. Knowing many of us.. would not make it.
Yeah. I could be one of them. Definitely if I make mistakes like I did when we explored that non-sequence system. Wasted 2 of my heat sinks there. Only 1 left but for only 120.000 LY or so .. though I guess I'm fine. Right. Honestly. I don't care if I'll die at some point. I already know what I'm going to do once I'm there. At the edge. I will make it. I got enough tricks up my sleeve.
In the meantime I'm having a blast with these prospies. There's a gang called the Rock Rats. They helped my complete my survey on a system and it turned out to be "green". When they say that it means all jumponium materials are to be found in one system. So they call it a green system. Second one found so far in the voyage. Not the last. Oh no.
Not the last. Commanders log. Out.
