Distant Worlds Day 10 - A case of Deja Vu

25 Jan 2016Silverorrange
I awoke to the sounds of thrusters overhead, sounded like one of the newcomer CMDRs was flying a bit low above my ship, i quickly got dressed and jumped back up into the cockpit, it appears that during my sleep many other CMDRs had reached the waypoint and landing spaces were becoming quite limited.

I decide to say my farewells and head off on a quick expedition of the tightly packed star cluster in the eagle nebula before going to find some more jumponium fuel. As I was leaving I noticed that one of the expedition organisers had landed nearby CMDR Kamzel, unfortunately I noticed this just as the jump drive had fully powered up and the count down had started to leave the planet.

The star cluster appeared to be empty other than the stars themselves but I could very well just have gotten unlucky with the random few that a selected, I will definitely fly back through this area again on the way back home to scout these out more closely.

After feeling slightly disappointed by the star cluster I decided to try something new and exciting, landing on a planet with more that 1G gravity, this was a first for me as usually I only land on small moons or planetoids when I stop for the night but I had heard over the prospecting broadcasts that there was a large supply of Jumponium fuel on this planet so the risks were worth it.

I'm glad to say the landing was uneventful but there was defiantly a difference in the way the craft flew as we came in to land, I can defiantly understand the pilots that undertake the challenge to land on 7G and up planets, maybe I will try that myself when I return home.....

Driving on the planet was also a noticeable difference with the SRV feeling a lot more stable and connected with the ground, it was also interesting seeing the minerals fall like .... well ..... rocks instead of float gently to the ground when I shot the various outcrops.

Whilst I was out collecting minerals I suddenly noticed that my ship had taken off a lot sooner than it normally would have automatically, maybe I was having too much fun speeding around on a higher G planer or it was my imagination and I was actually further out than I realised.
I quickly recalled it and it came back as normal so I don't think the escape pods opened but still...

I took off again and moved to a large shallow crater  nearby to see if I can find any more valuable minerals, which I did but I also found ANOTHER crashed ship with ANOTHER 2 occupied escape pods and a container of narcotics , im not sure if i should be taking this as a sign of good or bad luck but I cannot just leave another 2 people out here, so I quickly scoops up both the escape pods and return them to the ship.

These 2 seems to be a bit more 'Lively' than the last 2 but they quickly quieten down again when I plug their pods into the ships power supply, I guess being this close to the sun their cryo-stasis modules we not sufficient, where as the other 2 were found on a freezing ice planet.

The drain on the backup power supply is getting to worrying levels and I decide  its best to move on before we come across any more unlucky souls.

The last waypoint of this stage of the expedition is in the NGC 6357 nebula the main fleet is expected to get there by day 14 and is roughly 3300 LY away from my current location, so I covered the first 300Lys before landing on another small planet in the shade of a crater.

I am making sure the cargo bay is sealed firmly shut tonight.......
