Entry 20: Hotel California

Mic Turner Base

Well, it took slightly longer than planned, but I have arrived in the California Nebula.  It seems the Mobula will need more upgrades than expected, if the length of this trip is any indication as to how long the trip to Colonia will last.  I think the wisest decision will be to remain in the nebula and harvest resources while I explore and map systems for a month or so.  That should allow me to build up enough resources to return to the Bubble, meet up with any material traders in the area, and gather what I need to fully outfit the ship for the long trek.

In the meantime, though, I've arrived safely and in one piece.  I am surprised that there are as many stations out here as there are; I mean, I expected a research outpost or two, but there's at least 5 out here!  I'm tempted to bring my trading gear out here to look for decent trade routes, but then again I'll have my hands full with exploring.  Also, fun fact: Mic Turner Base, the place I'm currently staying, has ties to the Canonn Research Group, the same people who operate the Gnosis!  Ain't that an ironic kick in the tush?  As I'm getting a ship to explore, Canonn's out here by my side again... except no mass-panic and claustrophobia to get my space madness acting up again.  Heh~!

After landing at the Research Base, I took the SRV out to scout around the area and explore something I saw on final approach: a field of strange growth-like structures next to the base.  These fields of growths are actually common on the planet; the Canonn researchers call them "bark mounds".  They seem to be really weird, and Imma be trying to learn about them over the next couple of days.  In the meantime, here's me exploring the bark mounds for the first time!
