19 Feb 2021Feldbibliothekar
Exploration Camp C-NO4, an abandoned settlement with an unusual background. It's location can be found by reading the data from 3 listening posts and triangulating the coordinates.

The settlement itself is, despite its abandonment, not of noteworthy appearance. There are 5 Settlement Comms Log Uplinks which tell a bit about the background of its last days of inhabitation.

5 downloadable logs:

   MISSING EXPLORER 1/5
   Sector 5 clear.

There’s no sign of life on this rock. I don’t know what we expect to find.

   Project log:

The habitat has been set up and all systems are in the green. It seems that there is some interference with the comms, but it’s probably just some background noise.

   MISSING EXPLORER 2/5
Command, we’ve been at this for days.

I really don’t see the benefit of continued scans. As it said in the report: lifeless means there is no life here.

   MISSING EXPLORER 3/5
   Personal Log:

I swear someone at Command is messing with me here. They say go look, so we go look, but there is nothing out here. I don’t care what the data says.

   MISSING EXPLORER 4/5
   Project Log:

Perry has reported back from Sector 26. We couldn’t make out everything due to the damned interference, but whatever it is he was excited about it.

   Hab one this is P… found some… out here… looks li.. crashed… giving off… iation… effecting… comms… get closer… My god… ing is huge… jackpot here… thing… made… noise………..

   MISSING EXPLORER 5/5
   Project Log:

It’s been 6 days since we last heard from Perry. The search of his last known location failed to find anything conclusive. He just disappeared without a trace, the tyre tracks just stop. It makes no sense.

There are some things to unwrap here. First, it's an exploration camp. These are not as often found as one would assume. Mostly it's through an endeavour of government entities or private interests that those are deployed. But given that the exploration took not part in this system, but this specific body, must mean they did initially found something worth looking for there. As per the logs information, the exploration party didn't seem to be informed what discovery this was about. Maybe it was known to the contractor and he left out the vital piece of information to secure the secret status of the mission. As it turns out, this explorer named Perry did seem to discover what the party has been looking for. His communication seems to be scrambled due to interference, but there are some things in there that points towards another Thargoid incident.

"looks li[ke] ... crashed" ... "giving off [rad]iation" ... "[th]ing is huge" ... "thing ... made ... noise"

All of these can be attributed to a crashed Thargoid vessel. Given the assumed size, it should be a Thargoid Interceptor variant. Strangely enough, it seems to be recovered by an incoming Thargoid vessel, which isn't anything that has been previously documented and quite out of line as other crashed Thargoid ships are left dead for hundreds and thousands of years without being recovered. It might have been still alive, which gives an incredible insight into Thargoid culture. If what I'm assuming is true, they might care of some sort for each other. The abduction of the explorer Perry is also horrifying, but relatively typical Thargoid behaviour. One can only assume what these poor souls are experiencing in the hands of the Thargoids.
The other possibility is still pointing towards non-human alien action. Guardian AI? Guardians? The culture that left the elusive artifact on Mars?
At this point only wild speculation is left. What does seem odd is that although only 1 explorer vanished into thin air, the exploration camp is completely abandoned without any trace of any other explorers. It is possible that they just gave up their research and went back without going through the nuisance of disassembling their settlement. It could be that the contractor "finished" the job and left no other witnesses alive, which would be strange given that these logs survived. Maybe the Thargoids abducted every single last one of them, which would be relatively unusual. The last option is -as always - a misinformation campaign to obscure the real mission of this settlement and giving false hints towards Thargoid action.

Classify as unclear, obscure.
