Smoke? What smoke?

So I decided I was sick of working with Smokey and his "legit" connections. After another day of messing around, I decided to go into business for myself; starting with spending my savings on a legit mining vessel (Fat Bastard).

I'm not new to mining. In fact, it's how I made my first huge paydays after salvaging and smuggling good for freedom loving individuals. However, the difference is that people actually ask me to get them these goods instead of treating me like some halfwit criminal. So, I checked out MacVicar Base and Sutter Dock in Yan Musu to see what they had available before heading out for the day. Turns out there was a pretty serious need for Painite (big surprise) and Platinum and landed requisitions for 1 ton of Painite and 5 tons of Platinum. Easy enough. I finished up my prep by grabbing some collector limpets (hopefully enough...those things can be so finicky at times) and head out for a laid back day of truckin'.

As I was undocking I got a call for Smokey. He seemed a little perturbed to be losing his best smuggler. Funny, he never used words like that when I was actually running missions for him. Coincidentally enough, as soon as I hit supercruise some idiot tried to interdict my empty Type-7. I'm sure that wasn't someone Smokey sent to try and rattle me. I've been smugglin' goods for a looong time... a little interdiction attempt, even if I were loaded, isn't gonna scare me off. It's just how things go in this sector of space.

As soon as I got out there I realized I forgot one of the most important pieces of equipment. Going mining without prospector limpets is like going fishing without a fish finder. I mean, sure. You can certainly do it, but you won't know if fish are there until they bite. Same for mining, had to do it the old fashion way; probe a little here and there until something good pops out. Makes the run a little more tedious, but I didn't mind all that much. It was certainly more relaxing than anything I've done in the past few months. And, look at this view. When you're on such tight timetables and/or have people breathing down your neck, it's hard to sit back and take in the reality of what we're doing in this day and age.

In any case, the haul took a little longer than expected to fill up. Took all day and I only ended with about 2 mil in goods. Thankfully Sutter Dock (and all of Yan Musu really) is paying good money for Gold. Way better than the galactic average.

Funny story, just as a landed some guy popped in right on top of me and started firing. If Smokey's up to this, he'd better get some better goons. Who attacks a guy within eyeshot of the station and police? I'm starting to think I really was the best guy Smokey had on his roster. What a chump. I'm clearly better off without him. I'll get some shut eye, pick up that prospector limpet controller, and give it a better go tomorrow.
