Arrived and Departed

It was a long trip to Colonia on this occasion. The first half went okay - gathering many scans and data to increase my explorer rank and build some credits for setting up operations at Colonia. I decided to op into the halfway house on the Colonia Highway and found I'd already got sufficient data to attain Elite explorer status. That made the rest of the trip a little more tedious, as the sole reason for scanning etc was financial reward. I didn't come across anything exciting or even interesting and only a few water worlds, not a single Earth-like or anything else other than bog standard, so it was very tedious indeed.
Having finally arrived, I put my explorer Python into storage and bought myself a Krait II. Last time I came here, with my main profile (this one being my new, alternate) I had used the then new Krait II as a mining ship and it had done so well, I converted it for the ride back to the Bubble. On this occasion, I am making Colonia the base for my newer commander, and as I've grown a little tired of the other activities, have decided to make mining my main source of income for now, at least.
Having fitted the Krait II for mainly Void Opal mining, I am now cruising around the neighbouring systems, looking for good hotspots. Up to now I have not come across opals, but have discovered several new biological and other forms such as unbrella molluscs and crystals and the like, and have also come across many planetary rings rich in valuable materials, which I am making a database of and intend to return to shortly, to excavate as much as possible.
I neglected to put a mining laser in the payload, as I was aiming mostly for opals, and was unwilling to head out without at least one decent weapon (class 3 beam laser). When I return, I will exchange one of my seismic charge launchers for a decent mining laser. Might have to think about buying a larger ship, too - or another Krait II and kit each one up for two types of mining - we'll see, it's early days.
