The Empire Puts the Federation into a Diplomatic CornerREPORTING FROM ACKWADA FOR THE IMPERIAL NEWS NETWORK
It is reported that the Empire has repeated its demand for the Federation to deport all Marlinist traitors as tensions increase between the two superpowers.
As was previously reported the Federation initiative to deliver vital war supplies to Marlinist traitors escaping from Imperial Justice concluded a few days ago. While the federation Intelligence Service publicly called these materials lifesaving supplies, their exposure as war materials has placed the Federation in a publicly embarrassing predicament.
To compound the Federation’s unfavorable diplomatic position their previous disregard for Interstellar Law and their open support of rebellious traitors has brought condemnation across the galaxy by all legitimate legal authorities. There is very little the Federation can do legally or diplomatically that will provide them any relief from the situation that will improve their diplomatic position. The Federation is a victim of circumstances it has created themselves.
Adding to the diplomatic pressure mounting on the Federation several Duduseklis Empire League officials have been arrested and interrogated by Imperial Internal Security Services. These current and former officials include Melissa Iessi, Duduseklis Empire League’s Chief of Security and Intelligence as well as Sans Sykes, Overseer of Carter Hanger in Ackwada. While Sans Sykes has been released, Melissa Iessi remains in custody. Sources inside the Imperial Prosecutors Office indicated that Iessi is being held pending the anticipation of charges for conspiracy and treason for her part in Prince Harold Duval’s assassination.
The Federation knows that with each passing day evidence mounts of their collusion in Prince Duval's assassination. The diplomatic repercussions of the Empire's Official Report could send shockwaves throughout the Federation. Shadow President Felicia Winters is in the most vulnerable position. Knowing that her full involvement in Prince Harold Duval’s assassination will be exposed, the prospect of her apprehension, trial, conviction and public execution under Imperial Law will force her to drag the Federation into a war for her survival.
Within their own systems the Federation has now released its own Trojan Horse upon itself. With increased Imperial Navy patrols there is little to no room for NMLA forces to maneuver without attracting immediate attention by the Empire. Compounding the NMLA’s difficulty is the strict martial law in place in several of their previous systems including 234 G. Carinae, Baltah'Sine, Beatis, CD-39 3269, Chana, HIP 39470, Mazahuanses and Nahuatl. Within Imperial territory there is no maneuver room and any equipment, people and supplies they left behind in their retreat during the route is gone to them forever.
Additionally, as the Federation will soon to discover, their strange social customs and restrictions on personal Liberty will quickly wear on Imperial Marlinists. These Marlinist Imperial citizens will quickly perceive Federation perversions and tyranny as an abomination. Misguided Marlinists think they know what they want in democracy. Not all forms of democratic government and culture are the same. These Imperial Citizens thought that they want democracy wherever it could be found. They will soon tire of the Federation’s liberally loose society. Marlinists will discover that what they wanted was Imperial democracy, not abhorrent Federation democracy. When that epiphany finally strikes them, they will quickly turn on their current providers as viciously as they did against their own Empire. The Federation has a hot low temperature diamond on its hand with no where to get rid of it.
As Imperial Ambassador Imogen Luciana stated, “Our people must be safely returned so we can identify dangerous NMLA activists, before they gain the opportunity to inflict further harm. We have no desire for the Federation to suffer the same horrific attacks.”
Regardless of what the Federation publicly states there are most likely one of three ways the Federation will take to resolve the situation it finds itself in.
First, they could accept the request from the Empire to extradite the Marlinist traitors back to the Empire. By doing this they most definitely will lose diplomatic prestige. To do this the majority of the Federation Congress would need a veto proof vote against Felicia Winters certain veto. Should they choose this unlikely path the full extent of the plot against the Empire would be revealed as the traitors are processed back under Imperial Authority. That would jeopardize the entire power balance of the Federation. Felicia Winters would certainly be indicted for war crimes against the Empire once the full extent of her involvement is officially released. This would put the Federation into the unwinnable legal position of having to surrender one of its leaders for trial, conviction and public execution according to Imperial Law.
Second, the Federation could risk war by keeping the Marlinist traitors. But do they really want to risk war for vicious puppets that they know will soon tire of their masters and bite the hand that feeds them? The Federation would also have to weigh the diplomatic repercussions of legal isolation from its illegal actions. The Empire could pressure them further with charges of kidnapping Imperial Citizens. While this course of action would preserve the Federal Congress sense of diplomatic dignity, there are too many negative points for this to be a feasible and viable course of action.
The most likely course of action between the Empire and the Federation will most likely be quite diplomacy. This will allow both sides to privately come to terms with the events that have unfolded without the pressure of public perception and expectations. Most likely some of the agreements between the two powers would be a cooling off period where the Federation would keep the Marlinists under control. At the same time, the Federation would quietly and quickly cut off training, equipment, and finances to the NMLA. As soon as the NMLA withered sufficiently not to make too much of a fight the Federation Navy would disband the NMLA. Federation Internal Security would be required to quietly return the Marlinist Leaders to the Empire for Traitors Justice. When Marlinist and NMLA leadership and military strength were wiped out the welcome light in the Federation to Marlinist would be turned off. Publicly, the Federation would repatriate Marlinist back the Empire. There would certainly need to be a guarantee from the Empire that the children would not also be charged with treason under Imperial Law. That point aside, once processed back under Imperial authority the Marlinists could be sold off on the slave markets; having vacated their Imperial Citizenship when they committed treason. Their children, upon reaching the age of majority could be granted probational Imperial Citizenship if the parents could pay and have served their owners with honor, fidelity, and cheerfulness.
This course of action would also help preserve the Federation’s power balance against outside influence. The Federation congress would have time to deal with Felicia Winters Shadow Presidency and help restore legitimacy to Zackary Taylors corrupt and weak office.
It is too bad that the Marlinists had to become traitors to discover what they needed was before them all the time within the Empire. If they just had the honor, gratitude, and integrity to appreciate the blessing that Imperial life bestows upon its citizens, from slave all the way up to senator, this would all have been avoided.
Now is the time for the Federation to calmly back away from its indignant arrogance and assess the realistic options that it has. The Empire in this instance has the moral, diplomatic, and military high ground. We can only hope that sober and calmer political minds regain control within the Federation. Their very lives depend on it.
