CMDR's Log #1

04 Jun 2021Gabe Shadowbane
Well, I spent some time away from the cockpit but ey, y'know me; eventually the vastness calls to me again and I must answer. Eventually station life bores anyone, amirite?

I came back into the fray following a dear friend of mine, as I heard of her flying, it immediately made me want to venture once more, this time with some more company than I'm used to. We decided upon some nice adventure to get on together, something new and exciting helping those stations damaged on the last Thargoid battles. We figured being a little humanitarian would be a nice change of pace and opportunity for some nice pay, of course.

So I prepared for the long haul, I needed something tough enough for hauling some serious cargo, and I had some credits. I was planning on getting a new ship and it just so happened a Keelback would be a nice upgrade from my trusty ol' Type-6, it was a match made in heaven! I traded those big trucker-types in, outfitted it with a nice fighter hangar, the whole 20lys! Soon enough, we were on our merry way all the way from good ol' Altair, our home towards HR 1138, some fucking 60+ jumps away, it'd be an adventure abord the Dreamchaser 3000, my shiny new ship!

Turns out long hauls like those require more attention and preparation than I thought.

I ended up not buying a fuel scoop (you can guess what comes next) and after 30 something jumps of travel and scanning and standing in permanent awe at the amazing things in this universe of ours, I see myself in the middle of nowhere; last 10% fuel in the tank, with the closest station about 55lys away.

When all was done, I had my first encounter with the amazing Fuel Rats and was left all smiles at such amazing service! I mean damn, it was damn quick and the guy was so polite, shout out to CMDR Homborger for his help, it was a pleasure to meet the legendary Fuel Rats face to face! I thought I'd need a rescue mission from my friend, but turns out, they got their shit together much better! Within less than an hour I was already on my way towards a nearby station to top of my fuel and buy myself a scoop, having learned my lesson.

I always heard of them but like... It just sounded like some sort of distant myth or legend that you don't ever see yourself coming across for real, but nope, they're real and they're damn amazing; absolute godspeed!

For a first day in my little 'adventure', it was really damn memorable, if this becomes a pattern, I have a feeling my best days of commandeering are yet to come.

End of commander's log, I'll grab myself some drinks while the Dreamchaser gets some rest after those fun times.
