We got up early. Had a short breakfast. Planning on neutron star hopping all the way to Hawking's Gap and beyond. Great expectation. Then during our pre take off systems check the AI mentioned that we had an overheat on the number one ECU (environmental control Unit) We shut down that unit and went back into the engendering spaces to check it out. The ECUs are modular so we could hot swap the unit out if we needed to.
We needed to find out if it was a sensor problem or the unit its self. So we swapped the number one sensor with number two to see if the problem would follow the sensor. It did not. Number one was still overheating when it was brought back online.
We pulled that unit to check it out on the bench. What we found was a clogged intake with packing material. It seems the engineers were a little careless when they installed the unit. We cleaned it up, and reinstalled it. It ran cool after that.
The morning was mostly gone. So, we took time to eat an early lunch. There was going to be no time for breaks as we had to be strapped in for the neutron jumps.
As it turned out we did get a short break in the late afternoon when we had to drop out of witch space to repair the Frame Shift Drive. It is a comfort knowing that we have two AFMUs on board.
We found a .5G planet to stop for the night at 1930 GST. We just barely made it to the edge of Hawking's Gap.
