Jellyfish Nebula Speedrun: Log 3

27 Jul 2019CrazyGolm
I've been making good progress so far, but I'm not exactly speedrunning this right now. If I want to hurry up I need to stop scanning so much. I prefer empty systems, voids with nothing to find, because then I won't hang around.

I managed to make it to about 1000Ly out before I damaged my modules, probably thanks to the fact that there hasn't been a single neutron star or white dwarf on my route yet.

However, as I waked into the Oochorrs MJ-M A89-1 system, I hit the exclusion zone of the single star, a brown dwarf, and the Photo Bomber MK2 automatically dropped out of supercruise. Almost every module suffered minor damage due to this. Then when I waked to supercruise, heat damage caused additional module damage, so I had to repair twice!
Thanks to my two AFMUs I was able to repair pretty much everything back to pristine condition, although my power plant remained at 98% health. I don't want any nasty surprises so I want to repair things immediately after they go wrong.

Jumping from there, I made history for myself by crossing the regional border and entering the Sanguineous Rim.
It's pretty much the same. And I managed to hit a brown dwarf's exclusion zone and had to repair again... not exactly impressive. Now I'm down to 98% hull, and 97% reactor health.

I also tried my hand at surface mapping, and I may or may not be the first person ever to have mapped some random moon or other. Also a planet somewhere. I might have to survive to claim it though.

I'm also getting occasional space madness, hearing things that sound like voices, especially when I'm planet scanning.

On the whole, though, it's going well, and I've been discovering Codex-related things like non-terraformable worlds, so I think I'll have a lot of nav data to hand in at the end of all this. Even if I'm going more slowly than expected, this is my first remotely big expedition.

As of this log, I'm 32 jumps in, 50 to go. I'm under 3100Ly away from my destination, and I've covered just over 1600Ly from my starting point in the Pleiades. Therefore, I am 2006 Ly from LHS 3447. Not bad.
