Log 007 - Formidine Rift Run

11 Jan 2020Kris Afron
I had to decide what to do next, the visits to the Rift Settlements and the Zuzara had not really yielded anything that other commanders hadn't already reported and it was beginning to look to me like there was not much more to this story. But I figured that there may be something still to find if I headed out into the thinner area of the rift again and did some more surveying.

Then it was a day or two of random hops between star systems, landing on planets and moons when the mapping showed up interesting geological sites. I found some colourful Sulphur Dioxide fumaroles on Syreadiae RP-R c7-0 planet B3 so I took a few shots.

I spent the night after a day of hopping at Syreadiae CH-S d5-1 at a vista with a pretty spectacular view.

The following morning I took breakfast and realised that I'd just spent a whole day without discovering anything new. Every system that I visited, scanned and in some cases mapped had already been seen by human eyes. There was very little point in continuing this for much longer, but I did do for one or two more systems before thinking to myself - OK enough is enough, what to do now?

I'd stocked the DBX for a trip of about a month, to be honest I'd brought enough supplies aboard to last me two months so it seemed to be a shame to head back to the bubble after only  10 days or so.

After a couple of hours of deliberation, research and examining astrometric charts I figured that I could reach the southern edge of the galaxy in a couple of days. To that end I've charted a course to Ooscs Aeb IV-Y d0, nearly 7000 ly and 115 jumps south of my present position. After 14 jumps I hit on an undiscovered system, followed by another so this shows some promise.

CMDR Kris Afron signing off. Fly safely commanders.
