Admiration

02 May 2020Kris Afron
Having fitted a Sidewinder for exploration and done my best to get it fully engineered I had to take it outside of the bubble and try it out on some exploring.

So, I headed off into the black in What? In This? to see how she stood up to the rigors of the void. I targeted West and above the galactic plane and headed for about 1000 ly out towards Wredguia SL-P b50-0.

I stopped for the night at Col 285 Sector IB-X b17-0, planet A1 had some geological sites and I put down at one and took the Scarab out for a run, stocking up on some materials at the same time.

It was dark when I awoke the next morning, so I took some breakfast, did some more material collecting and headed off again. Before I arrived at the ultimate target I came across Wredguia DF-N B50-0, which appeared to be a first discovery (according to EDSM) and the FSS scan seemed to affirm this too. So I set about mapping all of the bodies in the system - 11 in all. Remarkably this consumed a lot of fuel and I had to return to the star to fuel scoop before I could move on.

By this time I'd perfected the travel mode. It was actually best to travel efficiently, the stars out here were spaced 10-20 ly apart on average which gave me a short fuel scooping time, whereas using full range travel was meaning that fuel scooping for a longer period was still causing overheating issues. I also stopped off at Wredguia YB-P B50-0 planet A1 during the outward journey.

Once I reached Wredguia SL-P b50-0 I turned back towards the galactic plane, but shortly after I decided to head into 17 Draconis to sell the cartographic data and confirm some "first" discoveries as I still wasn't sure that they were.

I'd actually discovered 4 systems,

Wredguia DF-N b50-0, 12 bodies
Wredguia VF-E d12-14, 11 bodies
Wredguia PD-Q b48-0, 2 bodies
Wredguia NI-Q b48-0, 2 bodies

and pocketed just over 7 mil CR for the exploration data.

So for now I've parked myself at a bar called The Paradiso in the only station in the system Paradiso Outpost with a nice cold beer to celebrate the success of What? In This? a fine exploration vessel even if I say so myself. I have to, I never thought that I'd find a good use for a Sidewinder!

Tomorrow I'll be heading home.
