\\INCOMING TRANSMISSION\\Hail Commanders! It is a good day today. Why you ask? Well let me tell you...
Yesterday was like any other day. Jump into a system, scoop and honk, scan all the bodies in the system, map any that were of value, and then move on. The task becomes almost a muscle memory thing you do it so often. Well, I hopped into {System Name redacted} and after grabbing a tank of fuel from the G Class I honked the system.
As the Big Ka-Bong rings out, I look at the sensor screen to read the radio dial...Hmm, that looks odd, the lines seem to be out of position. So I honk again just to be sure. I scroll over the readings and sure enough, I have finally, after 446 jumps and just over 23,000 light years, have found an Earth Like World. And just to add to the pleasure, there is also an Ammonia World. So I start scanning the bodies, 14 in all...My total for the system was 1 ELW and a Terraformable orbiting it, an Ammonia World, and 2 Terraformable High Metals.
I start to map the good planets, saving the Earth Like for last. Sort of like the big present that you always open last at your birthday party. I finally pull up to the beautiful blue, green and brown orb and gaze at it. While it doesn't look exactly like Earth, it makes the primal urge that you feel when you see "Home" well up inside of me. I slowly and carefully map the planet. Savoring each launch of a probe like I'm eating the last bits of that perfect meal that you only have from time to time. Sadly, the last probe is fired, and the mapping process is done. I turn from the planet, pull back a bit, drop out of Supercruise and gaze at the planet that so tugs at the humanity strings that all of mankind has deep inside.
After going to the galley and grabbing something from the replicator, I head back to the bridge and sit in the command chair. I enjoy my meal, staring at the planet against the vast backdrop of darkness and stars. After the food is finished, I give a small salute to my planet, fire up the FSD, and jump to the next system. Hoping that there will be more of these wonderful discoveries to come in my continued travels through this galaxy we call home.
Take Care and Check Six Commanders,
