Rebooting Settlements back to Life

18 Mar 2023XpressioN
A small guide to farm reboots including fire extinguishing needed for Inara's The Samaritan's badge.

We will gain the following entries in our codex:
  • Reboots
  • Fire extinguished
  • Bounties claimed
We need a small ship like a Diamondback Explorer, a Maverick suit, some guns, and a Power Regulator.

From the Galaxy Map sort systems by state of Civil Unrest, Lockdown, Natural Disaster and Terrorist Attach. While analysing these systems, check those having one of the Economies marked as Industrial. Using Inara, search and check the system's settlements. A small docking pad having the Economy marked as Industrial is what we want. This settlement, will have the PWR and HAB in the same building and another IND building

Once you've found that particular settlement, jump to that system and travel to that settlement. If you find it powered off, that means you can use it for reboots.

Alternatively, you can disembark in one of the system's stations. Check the on-foot Missions board -> Support and check the settlement's location in one of the missions. Do not take any missions, unless you require a Power Convertor, however if you need one, take it from a mission you're going to fail and pay a fine. Preferably you have extra Power Convertors just in case you loose one. Be aware, scavengers could be roaming around the settlement so we need to quickly land, disembark from our ship and dismiss it. Turn on our shields and start by hunting down these scavengers. It is ideal to scan them for additional bounties from other minor factions.

Once scavengers are eliminated, find a dead body of a researcher with Level 3 access and scan its security access with your Profile Analyser. That way we have access to enter the PWR and other buildings around. Go ahead, run to the PWD and break the maintenance panel with your Maverick suit's Arc Cutter. Use the Energylink device to get energise the door through the Charge port and get inside.

Once inside head to the Power Generator, place the Power Regulator in the Regulator housing to turn ON the power from the Reactor console. This will take a minute. Once inside you scan loot the lockers and data port. Before heading to the other rooms, turn OFF the power generator from the control panel. This will take 3 minutes to turn off, so plenty of time to run to the HAB and IND locations to extinguish the fires.

Return back to the PWR and wait the last seconds until the generator goes down, Recuperate the Power Regulator, Recall ship and head outside to the landing pad. Board the ship, launch and boost up. Engage super-cruise and in the progress, select the settlement once again, and make sure you transfer a power regulator from your ship's storage to your backpack.

Turn round and repeat. If you are not interested in looting materials, you can simply exit to menu and relog. Do not claim Bounties once you board your ship at the docking pad as when you do so, you're helping the BGS of that system and eventually it changes state. Once the state is changed, the settlement might turn into a powered one, and you'll have to change system.

N.B. Energy Cells, Medkit, Ammunition Box can be round the corner.

After a thousand reboot I had finally acquired 'The Samaritan' Tier 5 Inara Badge
