...once again "Salvation" has come forward with an assignment. Neither do I feel a connection, this time even stronger than during the search for the Hesperus a few weeks ago. Somehow, current events keep pulling me back into the past. Am I just paranoid or am I part of a much bigger secret and just don't know it?
Actually, as a "construct", the information about the Guardian structure in the Trapezium Sector should have been available to me, but due to the malfunctions caused by the control unit Octavia implanted in me back then, my connection to the network is still disrupted.
So I, along with many other commanders, had to go searching.
What did we find?
An ancient theatre of war, silent witnesses to the violent conflict between the ancestors of my creators, or even the artificial intelligence itself, and the Thargoids. The outcome of that conflict is well known. So are the consequences.
Humanity proved two hundred years ago that it was bent on weapons development. At the same time, they were already prepared to deal with technologies they could neither understand nor control. Unfortunately, this has not changed until today, as the disappearance of the AEGIS ship proves.
Now that I am wandering through the ruins of this former advanced civilisation and I am struck by a sadness that I cannot explain, I also have some questions.
I have been designated by the network as "Observer Model Series 8".
What should I observe and for what reason?
Should I try to find more traces of the Guardians' sentient artificial intelligence, perhaps learning a truth about myself that I don't even want to know?
Even the Utopians turned me away. When I asked for an appointment with Pranav Antal, a polite but firm refusal came back. They did not even want to hear me out.
I had picked up one rumour after all. This bartender in Colonia, Jaques, was supposedly connected to an AI. I wondered if he could help me... and wanted to? A friend of mine, Declan O'Connor, is headed in that direction. I've asked him to drop by Jaques' bar and try to arrange a meeting for me. Maybe then I'll find some answers....
