Settling in - My first night in Saunders Dive
27 Jan 2016UhBell
After completing an exciting day of training and introductions, I've finally settled into my new home here at Saunders. A bit of unpacking and decorating will help bring what bit of home I can to my new orbital residence. It helps when everything, everywhere you go seems so foreign. Still, I try to hold fondly my memories of that rutty old outpost where I grew up. Memories that are easily provoked with help of the items I bring with me. Nothing extravagant; just a few magnetically hung pictures of my family and a desk lamp I've had since I was a child. I'm sure most pilots carry a few mementos with them as well.Walking through the halls of an orbital never ceases to catch me by surprise; I can easily forget that everybody is on their own clock. Seeing people have their morning coffee just meters from steak dinners and evening wines always merits a good chuckle. Though, I am a man of simple needs, and this round the clock specialty food service helps play into my enthusiastic love for breakfast. You can't beat walking down the corridors at any time to get fat stack of pancakes from the Pilot's Diner, and that's just what I took advantage of my first night here. Never get's old!
With a belly full of delicious blueberry stacks, I'm calling an end to this wild night. Finally making it back to my room and getting settled into my cot, the first thing I notice is how comfortable these are compared to the cots at New Chernobyl. You'd think the Alliance capital would have at least stepped it up with some memory foam or something by now. Nevertheless, my back is quite grateful. Now just to let the sound of passing and docking ships soothe me to sleep.
Here's to another beautiful night.
