Commander's Log, April 26th, 3305.
Now that I've figured out how to get the computer to record these things, I figured I ought to keep a log for the LSRS Ranger. She's been a fine ship in the short time I've been of command of her, and I'm sure we'll weather through plenty more yet.
I'm currently on my second foray into the black, although this is a more impromptu one. The squadron I've recently joined up with - the Leviathan Scout Regiment - is on the hunt to top some of the Pilot Federation's leaderboards in several categories, exploration being among them. I was pretty eager to get out into the black again after so thoroughly enjoying my time on my first expedition to the Heart and Soul Nebulae with the USS Trial, my Saud Kruger Dolphin that I had kitted out for exploration.
I had about 300,000,000 extra credits to spare and had dropped a good half of them in getting this Faulcon DeLacy Krait Mk.II and equipping her for exploration. It happened to be while investigating some Guardian ruins that I happened across the way of CMDR Blackwild85, who invited me to join up with the LSR. I had learned soon after my recruitment about the leaderboard competitions and that the season was nearly over. I was pretty excited to explore some more, really break in the Ranger after getting her mostly equipped (there's still some more engineering I'd like to get done) and to help contribute to this new fantastic group that I belong to. So, like you might've guessed, I leaped back out into the black to see how I could help and what I could find.
Currently, I'm around 3,300 ly from Diabak, my new home. I had picked a random star on the western edge of the Vela Molecular Ridge and that was about 1000 ly underneath the Galactic Plane. It took a while, but I finally entered unexplored space (the most exciting feeling is when you see yourself coming into truly uncharted territory!) Since then, I've been doing my best to conduct extensive scans in the region I've found myself in, the Flyeia Drydae sector. I've found some interesting planets here, water worlds of various sizes and masses, ammonia worlds, even one earth-like world that could potentially harbor some future colonists one day. Plenty of other worlds that are good candidates for terraforming, assuming we ever expand so far out from the bubble one day. The way we've expanded and the number of new commanders that have cropped up since 3300 tell me we've got a good chance of that happening.
I've taken the drone out for some pictures, saw that the paint is starting to chip off the front, but I've got no plans to head back just quite yet. The season ends on Wednesday, but I'm not sure I want to push the limit here. I'll probably continue to scan all I can and head back on Monday. So far, I'd estimate I have around 167,000,000 credits' worth of data. My original goal was to have 200,000,000, but it looks like I might just exceed that, things are already moving along ahead of schedule as it is. As long as I can help the squadron as much as possible, I'm more than happy. No matter what, I'm fully confident the Ranger has many adventures ahead of her and that she'll be a great asset for the LSR.
Let's see what else is out there.
