Alright.
So I was able to end yesterday with around 222,000,000 in exploration data. I'm doing a lot better than I thought I would, this has been a much more productive expedition than I would've imagined. Most of the stars have had run-of-the-mill systems, but every now and again, I find something that's surprising. For instance, a binary system that had 3 terraformable water worlds orbiting the second star - and two of those orbiting each other along the way!
I kept going until perhaps a little too late last night, so much so that I overslept this morning. But in the hour or so I've been at it, I've already gathered in another 12 million or so in data. I want to get a lot more in today than just that. I've got my eyes set on a cluster of F and G-type stars that I think might prove to hold something interesting.

Welcome back, Commander.
The cluster was less interesting than expected. This trip is full of surprises; both good and disappointing ones seem to crop up! Seems that it was interesting enough for passing commanders to take a look, a few of the systems already had some planets that were discovered, but none of them in their entirety. No mapping was done either, so that leads me to believe that the commanders who came through here did so years ago, long before we had mapping equipment available to us. But who knows? Maybe they just got bored and went on their way.
Couldn't say I blame them, though. I got pretty bored in school and moved on to this after graduation. Spaceflight was expanding like never before, and working in some low or mid level position at some Federal bureaucracy looked less and less appealing with each ship I saw launching each day. The reports would come in during my first couple of years of school about the first explorers to reach the other side of the galaxy, to circumnavigate it and more; the reports would show us pictures of the weird and awesome worlds that were out there. Working in government just couldn't compare to being like one of those pioneers.
Of course, the Age of Pioneers is long gone now. My age saw to it that I missed that boat. Too young to have finished my degree and gone on to the Pilot's Federation's course for new commanders in time for that. Was only able to do that at the tail-end of 3304. Something tells me that there's a lot more to see than what we have so far, though. A lot of talk among the commanders that sounds just like the conspiracy theorists back home. Only difference here though is that it's normal. With anyone else, they would have been called crazy and scoffed at. Yet this is some of the bread and butter of any conversation between commanders. It's an entirely different kind of community.
And I couldn't be happier to be a part of it.
