Commander's log, April 29th, 3305.
It's been a busy couple of days. So much so that I didn't even get around to making a log. I had started the 27th out with around 220 million in exploration data - I ended yesterday with 410. I discovered 3 new Earth-Like Worlds even! I jotted down the names and I could list them here, but to be honest, I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of enunciating every letter and number in these darned randomized index names. (Though I'm still kicking myself in the pants for not noting what the name of that first ELW I found on this expedition was. I'll have to pour through the data when I get back to sell it.) Suffice it to say I was elated to have so much success in one whole day.
I've been caught in a fever trying to find as much as I possibly can in the limited time I have left. The deadline to turn in exploration data before the winners are announced is on Wednesday. I shifted out from the Flyeia Drydae sector into the NGC 2546 Sector, a nice open cluster that's bound to have plenty of systems to choose from. I've begun to plot a sidewinding trail back upwards and towards the bubble, determined to get as much data as I can in before I inevitably will have to make a beeline back home tomorrow.
It's exhilarating to not only find all that I have - ammonia worlds, ELW's and other planets that could potentially harbor human life someday - but to have this competition across squadrons to be the best. I suppose you'll find similar competition in any field out there these days, whether it's in trade or politics or whatever else you could think of. But it's amazing to me that even in this field, among other commanders, at the very peak of what humanity is capable of, you'll find competition like you would anywhere else.
I guess I had mentioned it's interesting how different the community we commanders have. I suppose it's worth mentioning that we're not unlike most other people out there. That can be both as reassuring as it can be frightening. I'll have to remember to call in an escort from the guys back home before making it back into the bubble. I'll wait 'til I'm like 10 jumps out or so. Thinking about it makes me regret not bringing any weapons and a fighter would only serve to briefly distract someone. I can't risk losing all this data, I owe it to the LSR to bring it all back.
Computer, hold on a sec.
Recording paused.
Alright computer, go ahead.
Log resumed.
Had to answer a quick message on the comm system. That's something I'm still not entirely used to. I've been on my own for around 6 months now, did a brief stint with the Federal Reserve and went out into the black by myself. Hardly found any experienced commanders, and I sure didn't want to bug them when I did run into them. Last thing I wanted to do was provoke anyone into giving me a ticket to a rebuy. That whole ejection sequence is so beyond unpleasant - the insurance costs seem to just add insult to injury.
But it's crazy how quickly I've invested myself in this group of commanders. I don't think I ever expected that; I always just figured I'd stick to freelancing and make my own way in the galaxy. But hey, things change. Times have been changing like crazy these last five years, I guess I'd better do my best to keep up.
Hopefully the next log I make will be made from the comfort of my quarters back in my new home in Diabak. I still haven't unpacked yet!
Computer, end log.
