Commander's Log, May 5th, 3305.

I talked to a friend of mine from back home not long after writing my last log. I shared my disappointment in not being able to secure any kind of win in the exploration leaderboards, but he made a good point to me. In that week or so that I was out there, I made more than he would in a few years at his job. And we came real close too, there's something to be said for that.

So I picked myself up and started to focus on a few other things I needed to get done. Finally fully moved into my quarters at Thomson Orbital. They're a lot nicer than I've enjoyed in other places. Sure beats living out of the Ranger or any of my other ships as well.

Did some contract work for Sirius Corp for a bit. Didn't earn too much or anything like that, but I did get into contact with an engineer named Marco Qwent. Seemed like a straight-laced, no-nonsense sort of guy. I'll look forward to working with him in the future.

I also did get into contact with another engineer, the guy only goes by "The Dweller". Dunno why. With a name like that, I imagined he'd be living in some sewer in some Imperial slum somewhere. Turns out that he, like all other engineers, has a nice, spacious facility to pursue his work in. Seems like a strange fellow, but I can't deny his skill. I doubt I've seen the last of him.

I know I had talked about getting a Beluga to help rescue people in damaged stations, but I decided on outfitting a Type-7 for the job. It's not the most glamorous, I know, but I crunched the numbers with some software and came to the conclusion that I'd get way more bang for my buck with a Type-7 versus any other ship I could possibly outfit for the job, the Beluga especially. Some of the crew members expressed their disappointment that the LSRS Mercy would be a meager Type-7 rather than something more prestigious, but everyone is chomping at the bit to help out those people out there.

I just want to get it engineered a little bit before we get going on that. I won't need much, but I've heard that most stations have fires that are out of control in the docking areas. With nowhere for that heat to go and all radiators working on keeping life-support operational, I imagine they're much like an oven in there. I need the Mercy to be able to disperse heat effectively, or we're gonna be in for a short trip.

So I've been working to get as many materials as possible. I even went on a couple of trips with CMDR Blackwild85 to see what we could find. They served a dual purpose of getting what we both need as we engineer some new ships - he just bought this gorgeous white Anaconda, the 'Eternal' - and helped us relieve some stress and have some fun after a long time in the black. I know he's been dealing with some stuff with his parents. He didn't talk too much about it, but it seems like Thargoids and pirates are involved? I'm not sure. He'll figure it out, I'm sure. While we were out there, we found a crashed ship and some interesting stellar and biological phenomena.

After we parted ways earlier today, I found another crashed ship and an abandoned outpost. Read their logs, or what was left of them. There was something about one of the workers there going mad and killing everyone else there. I don't know how he managed it, but the results were gruesome. Looks like a rescue team responded and took the killer with them. There weren't any S&R markings on the Anaconda that was crashed nearby, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a connection there...

In any case, I've been spending a lot of time at Jameson Memorial, working on the Mercy and getting her ready to go. It'll be a bit of a break from exploration, though I'm excited to get back to doing that. I might engineer my first exploration vessel, the Trial, to go further than before and take her out again in a month or two. I also think I'll retrofit the Ranger so that she can take the fight to the Thargoids or for some defensive use. The galaxy is a dangerous place these days, after all.

Lots of work to be done, and not enough time to do it all. Time to get to work.

Computer, end log.
