Rebirth - Part 2

The thing about people that spend a lot (and I mean A LOT) of credits on a project like the Ripper is that they tend to want to keep it, those selfish bastards.  That’s where I come in.  I had a knack for taking things that don’t belong to me.  I also had a knack for pissing a lot of people off.  I don’t think the two are related though.

Whatever.

Back to the Ripper.  She was the most beautiful vessel I’d ever laid eyes upon.  Getting to her wasn’t easy, and I needed to have contingencies in place.  I met a man named [REDACTED] early in my smuggling career.  He had a very particular set of skills, useful for those who want to glide under the radar, and conduct business in the shadows.  He could alter ship ID tracking logs, making you appear hundreds of light-years away on a station’s manifest, in a system you’ve never actually been to.  He could also alter station records to make it like you were never there.  Obviously his services weren’t cheap, but they were necessary.  If I had any hope of pulling this off, I needed to be a ghost.  I needed [REDACTED].

The Ripper was in the [REDACTED] system, at a small surface port on [REDACTED], a small moon that orbited the [REDACTED] planet from the system's secondary star.  Tracking her down was difficult, but hey, this is what I did for a living.  This was the very reason I was alive.  To attain everything I wanted.  I deserved it.

Next I needed to secure entry into the facility.  This proved to be a bit more difficult than I thought, but in the end I found a young woman who worked maintenance, and she just happened to have a bit of an onion head problem.  I just happened to have a contact in Harvestport that owed me a favor. Convenient, maybe even too convenient, but I wasn't one to look a gift Cobra in the cargo scoop. It was the in I needed.

The last part of the plan was the escape. This part was simple.  I planned on flying the Ripper right out of the facility, and never looking back.  It’s not like they could keep up with the fastest ship ever built, right?  Besides, I always had [REDACTED] to cover my tracks once I was safely away.

It took the better part of a month to get everything ready, but the pieces fell together beautifully.  I was prepared to pull off the heist the very next day.

I didn’t know it would be my last.
