Finally made it back to the "bubble" - Dropped off my passenger. Between what they paid, and the exploration data, the new Anaconda will barely make a dent in the bank. Amazing how only two weeks ago I was bumbling around in a loaner Sidewider, with barely a credit to my name. Now I'm a scientist with Canonn Research, and an Elite explorer.
I'm also happy that there are FIVE newly discovered "Earth-Like" worlds out there with my name on them. This last haul brought be to over two-thousand discovered objects.
Spent the evening visiting my newfound engineer friends for one more round of modifications to the Sagan. She's jumping just shy of fifty lightyears per jump.
After I chase down some of the Guardian tech I keep hearing about, she should jump close to SIXTY light years per jump. Not too bad for a little "luxury" boat.
The Anaconda is going to be a long term project, with the goal of 75 light years per jump. I'm having trouble justifying the expense of the ship and equipment for only a 25% increase in jump range.
However.... the payoff won't be within the bubble. Over the course of say, fifty thousand lightyears, the Sagan will have to jump over 850 times. The Anaconda - about 650.
Also, there are regions of the galaxy even a sixty light year jump range can't cover.
Speaking of the Anaconda - She's been officially registered with the Federation, and Explorer's guild as: R/V Annie Jump Cannon - a VERY fitting name for an exploration ship.
I'm headed to LP 726-6 to pick her up, and get some of her basic modules fitted. Think I'm going to also make Varati my new base of operations.
Will take the Cannon out on a short jaunt over the next few days to fine tune her systems, maybe go mine a few deposits I found on this past exploration trip.
Definitely not taking any passengers.... screw that. The money is nice, but GOOD exploration data pays way better. Plus, dammit, I'm an Astrophysicist, not a butler.
