This is the continuation of my last "catch up" log for the events that occurred in the past few months. At Modar's Bar, Zartonis told me more about the station, as well as his job. Apparently, a group called E.X.O was beginning to spread its wings, and Saunders's Dive had been their base of operations for some time. I was perplexed that no one had mentioned this faction before, when I remembered that the mechanics who had always spoken about Wolf 1301 weren't at all interested in politics.
I'll spare the details, but apparently Zartonis was a Chief of Staff for E.X.O, and he invited me to join them as a member of their Exploration Flight.
"Is there a discount at Modar's in it for me?" I asked, jokingly.
He laughed and assured me, "Of course! All members get 15% off the good stuff. That's half of the reason most of us joined."
"What's the other half?" I inquired.
"You know," he began, "I think I'm still figuring that half of it out. There's just something... inspirational about our Wing Commander, I guess. And on top of that, our mission really matters to all of us. The galaxy has too many selfish organizations trying to use the average individual for their own selfish agendas. We're trying our best to stop all that, to let people do what they want to do."
This idea intrigued me, but I was a slave trader- a smuggler. I had been trying to get out of the business for some time to try something new, but if they knew my past, there was no telling what they'd think.
"What is your faction's policy on slavery, then?" I ventured.
"To be honest, we don't have one. I myself don't support it, but there are many members of E.X.O who have made careers out of it."
"You have smugglers?" I blurted, surprised that an organized group could incorporate such a rowdy bunch into their operations.
"Sure do!" he answered. "In fact, we've been thinking about consolidating them into an official flight."
"That's crazy," I said, shaking my head and smiling. "I've been trying to get out of the business, but the Robigo Cartel would blast me before I could power up my frame shift drive if they knew."
"There's no need to be concerned about that here, Starr," he said. "We've got a navy that could turn the Cartel's little mining outpost back into the pieces of ore they made it from."
I laughed. "Well, in that case, sir- sign me up!"
This concludes the second part of my "catch up" log entries. I will continue them when I have more time.
