For months I've been building a foundation to take large leaps into the universe. First was bounty hunting in Extraction Sites to get my feet wet. Ran this operation out of a Cobra Mk III, I'd wait for a system authority ship to attack a bounty and jump on the back of it. If I was feeling up to it I'd initiate with System Authority next to me.
I made enough money to get an Asp Explorer and used it for mining. Third Party tools pointed me to a Pristine, Icy body on jump from my adopted home, TZ Arietis. I made several runs and watched the money start to pile in, enough to buy a viper and have a straight hunting ship for the first time. Great ship, super fast and maneuverable with noted temperature issues. I used both to rank grind with the Federation which indeed does take longer than you can imagine. I'm still a lieutenant and I've been at it for months now.
From here I bounced between Massacres, Resource Extraction Sites, Donations, and a few passenger missions. I worked out enough to eventually get a Python, which I loaded with all my mining gear. I find the Python to be a great mining ship, holds a lot, can take some abuse, and it's maneuverable. Money really started to roll in after this and I made my first Elite rank trading.
Over the past week I decided to jump into Engineers, stripping down my Asp Explorer to get there and have blueprints for some great upgrades (not full level 5 yet, but we are close). The short term plan is to bang on Engineers for as much as I can at this point, and return to Rank grinding for the Federation. My ultimate goal at the moment is a Corvette, which I'll load up for true long distance exploration and combat.
