Weekend expedition: 3306.07.31

01 Aug 2020Suremaker
After spending weeks on LTD and Painite mining, the Eridu Fleet Carrier is ready for a first expedition trip!

I took a simple goal for this one: take a weekend expedition 2000 LY from the bubble.

The first step was to supply Tritium for the trip - 1000 tons of additional supply is more than enough.
I took the course to LHS 1067 C 2 orbit, nearby Yurchikhin Station. 6 Mm distance between the outpost and the fleet carrier was perfect and it took only a moment to resupply the fuel with 128t cargo space on my Krait MkII Krajtek.

Now, it was time to plan the trip! I chose my faction home system HR 8444 as the starting point.
I commanded the carrier to jump but this time I wanted to see its departure, so I switched to exploration Anaconda Fafik and watched...

---

Finally, it was time to plan the trip!
I choose a random system Sifi WO-P c19-2 as a target one and started plotting the route.

HR 8444
-> Col 359 Sector RS-H b11-1
-> Dumbbell Sector XF-C a14-4
-> Pru Euq CR-N d6-140
-> Sifi WO-P c19-2
Departure time: 21:00

So, all was set! There was still some time to fly around the carrier and check that everything is ok, so I did it.
When the time came, I took the course on the first system and jumped...

---

Col 359 Sector RS-H b11-1 appeared to be a fully discovered system - after all, it is close to the bubble.
On arrival, I did a standard discovery scan (honk) but then ordered the next jump, as there were still few to go.
I decided to not go anywhere far from Eridu, and started counting the time to departure...
As time was passing by, I realised I could fly around after all as these 15 minutes was taking ages.

I was sitting in Fafik docked on the carrier surface and waiting, but something seemed to be wrong...
I noticed that it was close to the jump, far beyond the time where all the landing pads should be sealed, but my Fafik was still on the surface.
I looked at the timer counting down the time to departure - it was below a minute. Stressed, I requested taking my ship to the hangar. Uff... that was close to the tragedy.

Now it was only 10 seconds to departure... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... NOTHING
What is going on? There was no jump!
I went on the admin board of Eridu... NO ROUTE SET... but... but... I just requested one!
I checked quickly the navigation panel... SYSTEM Dumbbell Sector XF-C a14-4
What? How? I did not feel any jump but we are at the place! How come? How is that possible? What is wrong?
Suddenly, I heard the voice on the intercom.
> Commander! Commander!
I looked over to the comms panel and pressed the button to reply, but nothing has happened...
> Commander! Commander!
... why this button does not work. I pressed again and again and again..

I opened my eyes. I was in the med room. The medic was standing next to me.
> Commander! Do you hear me? Finally, you woke up.
I looked at the medic and asked: "what happened?"
> You have lost your consciousness 20 minutes ago. We are still identifying what was the reason, but our initial presumption is the food poisoning as the symptoms are similar to the other members that we treated earlier this day.
"Where are we?" I asked
> Dumbbell Sector XF-C a14-4. We have arrived according to the schedule.
"Thank you", I said. So it was just a hallucination.

// It was an interesting glitch in the game indeed

---

Dumbbell Sector XF-C a14-4 was not much interesting system - just two Brown Dwarfs.

Unlike the previous stop, I decided to do some local discoveries while Eridu was preparing for the next jump.
I have visited a few nearby systems but did not discover anything very interesting. I came back to Eridu and jumped to the next stop.

---

On the contrary, the Pru Euq CR-N d6-140 appeared to be quite an interesting system.

The Full Spectrum System Scan indicated A 5, A 6 and A 7 planets to be terraformable and not mapped by anyone yet!
I ordered Eridu to prepare the last jump, then took Fafik and went to map the planets.
It was an easy, system-local journey and it went pretty quickly.
On the way back I noticed that it is pretty close for Eridu to depart, and realised that the landing pads will be sealed out even sooner. Adrenaline raised a bit.
If I did not manage on time, I will have to travel 500 LY on my own. Fafik has range of 70 LY per jump so it is not that bad - after all, it is suited for long explorations, but I still wanted to fly on the carrier.
When I jumped out of the supercruise, I turned on the auto docking computer to take me to the docks and started observing the timer... less than 1 minute to dock!
The auto docking is generally OK, but it is not the fastest way and I started getting nervous. When the ship got closer to the landing pad, I decided to help my computer to dock faster and flew closer to the landing pad and let the computer to finish docking.
I docked when it was 10 seconds to seal the pads!
Soon after we jumped to the final stop.

---

Finally, we arrived to Sifi WO-P c19-2. There is totally nothing special about this system! Actually it is only a White-Yellow class G star with no other bodies, but it is as good as other systems to be a home base for the weekend expedition.

After arrival, I went on a local discovery trip to the nearby systems and discovered a virgin system Sifi XO-I d9-64 with terraformable High metal content world and two Water worlds.

It is a good start and I'm sure I will find more interesting places over the weekend.
