EXPLORATION LOG 18 : The Penultimate Voyage of Creamy Goodness the Third.

23 - 04 - 08

Feeling good and heavy when I wake up on planet is going to be something I miss when I return to the bubble. For convenience, one tends to end up on a station because the docking is a step or two less work for the average pilot.

I won't miss the leg work mind you. It’s shocking just how many times one happens upon a very similar plant over thousands of light years. It leads a chap to wonder if there is only so many ways to combine the building blocks of the universe into a life form, or perhaps the races that came before us took part in seeding uncomplicated life all over our galaxy.

The repeating patterns dose make the task of logging plants feel Sisyphean, slowly dismantling ones enthusiasm for continuing. Fortunately, the galaxy dose seem to enjoy injecting something unexpected to remind a chap that small miracles happen every day.

Going from space to planet can play havoc with ones’ equilibrium and today was very much a bad day for staying upright. I was off balance all day so I stuck to low gravity ice worlds gathering Wiggiys’ samples. Falling and piercing ones suit could very well be fatal.

Here I am putting together a log, so I must have survived the day what? I have no idea why I'm off kilter today, but space exploration have very little to do with gravity, so I was feeling fine when I logged this Earth Like.

While the sky was not as full of stars, it does have a close by water world that can been seen in its sky and a tube nebula visible against the eastern spiral arm. A Gas giant on the edge of the system boasts many moons all covered with plant or fungus life of their own. All in all, a bountiful system, and a good place to call home.

After logging that lot, I'm done for the day and spending the night on a low gravity world feels like a good plan.

Good night log

I am coming to the end of days for the explorers’ life. I’ve been out here a little over a month now, and I’m looking forward to emerging myself in the excesses of a decadent society, at least for a few days. Views like this are all very well, but as I’ve said before, it’s just something to see when one has not one to share the experience with.

I’ve lost track of what day it is, I know the date, but not the day. I could simply ask Ninette, but I enjoy not having any reason to know if its .. say Tuesday. Depending on how well I do today, I’ll call it a weekend and have myself a little treat, providing I earn it.

I would say I did well enough to have a wee dram tonight, and I did extra work to find a sky held in place by enough gravity to allow me to enjoy an indulgent meal tonight. I’m heating up Plump Goose, sweet rice and roasted vegetable to enjoy with a half bottle of a cheeky little white. As I intend to fall asleep with my feet up and a six sting in my hands, I’ll say

Goodnight log.

Systems with other explorers name already in place are becoming very common today, even with my preference for undiscovered systems in my jump calculations. This dose mean I am coving a fair distance as I’m not stopping so frequently.

This morning, I was quite surprised to jump into the influence of a Black Hole this close to the bubble. They were quite common about fifteen thousand light years ago, but here it is something worthy of comment.

After checking where the last hole was I crossed paths with, I had a quick peek at the remaining distance till the Ass throws its unwieldly bulk back into the Disc. I have to say I had quite the jolt of excitement when I realised just how close I was. If I didn’t bother with mapping and logging plants, I could be back a few hours after today ends.

Turns out, I didn’t shirk my responsibilities to Wiggy, and I was rewarded with another serene blue cloud of .. what ever it is to encourage one to strum this evening. My parents may argue this point, and with good reason, but I do adhere to my word even if on one is present to disappoint with a tardy attitude to responsibility.

I must keep that dedication in the forefront of my mind tomorrow. I will be back on the Disk and I still have a Raider-king and the Guardian Device situations to put to bed before I move on.

For now, and quite possibly the last time I will say, goodnight log.
