Approaching the Gamma Quadrant

07 Sep 2021Kingofspaince
My leisurely stroll to Colonia is coming to an end. I'm only a few neutron jumps away from my destination, and then my journey can begin in earnest.
In an old Earth science fiction program the galaxy, divided into four quadrants, was said to take an enormous amount of time to traverse. A voyage from the galactic northeast (what they called the delta quadrant) would have taken a century. Now, a dedicated explorer can go from Sol to Beagle Point in a matter of weeks. We've surpassed the imagination of our past.
Still, I think it's fun to look at the galaxy in those terms, in the terms of the imagination of our past. So I'll start my expedition, once I make the appropriate preparations at Jacques station, by examining the Galactic West, what that old program called the gamma quadrant. From there I can move north to Beagle Point, and then to Salome's reach. Then it's out east, to Tenebris, and around south and back. Maybe I'll try to cross through the core. Or maybe I'll leave that for another grand tour.
Black Phillip has been an excellent companion on this voyage. It's withstood some grave piloting errors on my part, and this great big old goat keeps on charging forward into the void. I almost dread what will happen when I can afford a more fleet-footed explorer, as I can't imagine a better ship than the one I'm in.
