Galactic Wanderers Day 1
02 Jun 2021Osiris.
After nearly a week waiting in the bowels of the CRV Gargantua fleet carrier, with occasional jaunts to pick up or sell last minute sundries, we made the first set of jumps today! Leaving the INTI system to the MAMMON system. It was a rocky ride and I don't mean physical shaking. I was unable to login at any point during the jumps. The carrier commanders kept getting ejected from their carriers. the captain of the Gargantua even had to use the reboot function on it. What a mess.Nevertheless, the jump drives spooled, the engines screamed, forces were unleashed, space crumpled, and we all arrived intact at MAMMON.
Excited to some exploring (or at least Honk) in this new far away system I sold some of the ridiculous 70 limpets I was carrying down to a manageable 32 and took my Krait Phantom out for a short trip. I found a nice High Grade signature in the mammon system while scanning it...got interdicted trying to reach it, and just said "F*** that!" and high waked to a random nearby system.
Disappointingly, it was fully explored and mapped. So was the next one, and the next one, and the next one. 8 jumps in I found a (fully mapped and explored) ammonia world and two terraformables and I was so disappointed at not finding an unexplored world that I didn't even map them for the millions they were worth.
However, about 10 jumps in, I got my FIRST (mostly) unmapped, unexplored system. The star was seen but I got the planets. CMDR Vehicle Reversing, wherever you are....you missed a spot -just there. Say hello to COL 359 Sector RC-J B39-O. An unremarkable collection of 7 iceballs around an unremarkable sun. Still, I furiously explored and mapped every world in the system, valuable or not. MINE. The posessive fury from the hindbrain of a primate guarding a newfound fruit tree...written over the cosmos. We can't change who we are, yet anyway. This was a suitable point for a turn back towards mammon.
I had hoped to make a test run of my CRV systems which are in dire need of control customization, and maybe mine some additional materials.
Making a few jumps further out I stopped at the previously explored COL 359 SECTOR UC-J B39-2 system, and found a nice moon to test my SRV on. An icy moon with water geysers bringing various concentrated crystals to the surface. 46 Geologic points of interest! Stopping at 3 of them (lots of steep canyons unfortunately.) I was able to procure some good supplies of yttrium, zirconium, selenium, and basic lesser minerals. This served as an excellent shakedown cruise for the SRV and I got the controls sorted out. Following materials mining I set my sights back on Mammon and a warm meal at the carrier for the night. An uneventful 5 jumps later (all stellar-only systems!) brought me back to the Mammon system and I chatted with the other commanders about perhaps making some mining runs of the system's pristine metallic world for the engineering resources I'm sure we will all need.
That night, I couldn't sleep. So I took the ship out for a late night tour and found a metallic planet with space fungus. This allowed me to mine up some metals fairly easy and I posted the location to the expedition bullitin board as soon as I got back.
