Tour of our System

16 Apr 2020Korzhakov
We arrived mid morning yesterday. I jumped into the system and she see's the bright white star at the center and it takes her breath away. I take Jean for a quick tour of the system, pointing out the geologically active planets with various minerals on them that can help sustain us if necessary, the couple of icy worlds that are beautiful to look at, and then on to the tropical earth like world where I have our place set up.

The planet is warm, with a 102 degrees Fahrenheit average surface temperature. But it also has a lot of oceans, with a great cool breezes blowing all the time. I bring the phantom lower and we head for one of the large islands that dot the surface of this planet. I steer for the base of a large mountain and continue our decent. Just as it looks like were going to crash into the trees, the opening for the cave appears. Very hard to see from any angle accept right in front of it. In fact, I never would have found it if it wasn't for the redesigned probes that Jean made for me, that give much more detail that normal mapping probes.

We fly into the cave a couple of hundred yards and settle into one of the medium landing pads. We grab our bags and head for the airlock. The elevator takes us to the pad surface and Jean comments how nice it feels in the cave. With the constant breezes, and being out of the direct sunlight. The cave sits at a beautiful 68 degrees for it's entire orbital period.

We drop our bags off at our habitation unit and I show her around. It's very similar to our luxury apartment back on Ray Gateway accept for the addition of two more bedrooms. and I did that for a reason. I then take her outside and show her the rest of the complex. The identical hab next to ours for Ronin and Family, the automated greenhouses, the workshops, the warehouses etc.. I finally give her an overview of the automated defenses that keep us safe in case anyone manages to locate the cave and doesn't have the right IFF code.

We head back and settle into the house, I make a few runs to the ship to bring in the other items we brought along and some more supplies for the shop and warehouse.
I whip up a nice dinner and pour her a lavian brandy while we sit in front of the fire-pit just outside the houses. We talk about things she wants to do to the complex now that she sees it and puts her systems engineering mind to the task. I take notes on all of her ideas, though I know I don't need to because she never forgets an idea she has.

We finish off our brandy and head inside for the night. This morning I awake to find her making breakfast and the coffee is already done. I grab a cup and give her a kiss good morning. Today she started to redesign the water filtration system to make it more reliable and efficient. She also wants to redesign the outside relaxation and recreation areas. I will be taking the rover out to scout the areas around our compound in more detail, gather more wood for the pile and then finishing up a new cargo trailer in the shop to haul supplies back and forth.

We will stick around here for a couple of more days. Get a feel for how it will be to vacation here, and if need be, to live here.

It's been a while since Jean and I moved in together and have been dating even longer. I think it's time I start looking at making this a permanent arrangement. I will need to plan that carefully. But that's for a later discussion. Right now I have to go make sure I gather more wood for the fire-pit tonight. She really likes sitting out there in the glow of the firelight with a good drink in her hand and talking about our future.
