New Territory

The carrier Archangel had been in the Diaguandri system for several weeks as we let the crew have leave time and stocked up to take the ship out again. While the Captain and crew were preparing the ship and stocking up. I completed several ship acquisitions, outfitting and then engineering. I finally bought an Imperial Clipper. I have always wanted a clipper, and now that I have one, I wonder why I wanted it all this time. It's a large ship. that doesn't seem to be able to do anything really well and is mediocre at most tasks. But it's pretty, slick looking and fun to fly. Gathering materials and short trips give me a reason to fly her so I am a happy owner. On a more serious note, today we jumped the carrier to the Asterope system. The Thargoid infested system almost 500ly from the bubble. I went looking for trouble as soon as we were on station. I started off taking out the "Ascension", which is my anti xeno Anaconda. I took on 5 scouts in my first engagement, and while I left in one piece, I also knew I needed to switch to a much more maneuverable ship to fight these scouts.
I headed back to the Archangel after the first engagement and switched over to my other ready to fight goids ship. The Doraku, my Krait MkII. The Krait was able to make much quicker work of the scouts. The ability to land the guardian gauss rounds consistently proved to be the key. Heat was never a problem as long as I didn't rapid cycle the gauss cannons more than two shots in succession. I am also quickly learning the patterns that the scouts fly. They like to slow down in a straight line and then reverse course. That is just a free 4 round volley of gauss rounds and the little scouts go down quickly.
After a tackling two different groups of scouts. I needed to dock to clean off the caustic damage that was happening. So I flew over to Artemis Lodge, and in this system filled with Thargoids, where there are only three spaced out planets and nothing else, there sits this beautiful Coriolis tourist style starport. Limping in with my hull slowly degrading I was stunned to see such a beautiful station out here. I landed and the ground crew were very efficient at neutralizing the damage as they get a lot of practice out here.
I rearm, fix up the slight hull damage and after a quick cup of coffee, head back out to do it again. I have a lot to learn, and even more once I start to go after the interceptors. But that's for another time. I am just getting started in this new territory in my career as a commander. Here to learn, so when the aliens come back in force, I will be ready to contribute to the defense of humankind.
