Thargoids, Day 2

"You don't say?" the gentleman on the seat next to me says over his glass of beer. "Yeah that was the wisdom from the armchair warriors in the bubble I suppose" I reply back. Well if your looking to start with scouts, you need to use the AX multicannon, nothing takes them down easier. "Thanks friend" I say to him. I finish my drink and head up to my room at the hotel in Artemis Lodge. This morning I head back to the Archangel and inform Bailey that we need to jump back as close as we can get to Jameson Memorial, I have some items I need to pick up before we continue our mission out here. "No problem Korz, we will be ready to jump as soon as you land"
I settle into the hangar and then head up to to Finnegans to grab breakfast and watch the jump. We arrive a few minutes later, and when I finish my breakfast I head back to my hangar and take the Chieftain up to the flight deck. I launch and head for Shinratra Dezra, a quick jump and short cruise later I am in the outfitting hangar at the Lakon dealership. Three AX multi cannons and two new rail guns, two new shield boosters and were off again once everything passes final quality control checks. Next up is my Anaconda, she comes in to get fitted for two more Guardian Gauss Guns. Now she's ready to try and take out an interceptor someday.
As I have now configured my Chieftain for scout combat. I make the impulse buy of another Chieftain and outfit it with everything for Interceptor combat as well. This way I don't have to reconfigure and just just switch ships in quick order. I don't bother with much in engineering at the moment because I do not believe that I will be using this anytime soon. Once I get good enough with scouts that I'm ready to take on an interceptor. I will start with my Krait MkII and then work my way up to the Chieftain when I have the skills.
We make the jump back and I immediately set off in the Lakon to go find some Thargoid Scouts. It doesn't take long and I don't have to go far and I enter my first fight with a group of 4.
The new cannons take a minute to get used to as these are turreted weapons and fire on their own once the target has been engaged. But like the experienced scout fighter I met in the bar told me, the AX cannons are the most effective on the scouts, they really cut through them in short order.
I get thought the first two groups of scouts before I remember that I also installed new rail guns on this thing. So on the third group and after the first trip to Artemis Lodge to get the caustic substances off my ship. I utilize the rail guns in addition to cannons and they really drop fast.
I go though group after group of these things and start to get good at removing the caustic damage with heat from my own ship. So I start each fight with damage, and that's when I run into a group of about 7 or 8 scouts. I collide with one during the fight and my weakened shields go down. They are all attacking me at once and I notice that my hull is getting dangerously low. So I retract my weapons, boost away and get into super cruise and make it back to the carrier with just over 19% of my hull integrity left.
I repaired her and again went back out. At this stage of my development in Thargoid combat. I am trying to learn how they fight, and the best and fastest way to beat them.
After several forays into combat today I arrived back at the Archangel and left the ship in Randy's capable hands to have her ready for me to try this again tomorrow. I make a quick trip to the bridge to talk the Captain and see how the crew is handling being in an alien combat zone. She says it's a bit unnerving to some of the crew, but so many are combat vets that it really isn't a big deal. Since the Thargoids have never attacked a carrier, that also helps to keep tensions down. But for the supply and passenger runs to the Artemis Lodge, it's a bit scary sometimes, though all trips have gone off without a hitch.
