Colonia busy

"I think we should have a nice dinner for the command staff after such a successful first long distance run" Jean says to me as I walk into our quarters. "I agree you handle finding the location and I will arrange the transportation" I reply. She tells me that she's heard of this fantastic place on Colonia Dream station and that she will get us reservations for.. I tell her that I will have Randy bring the Imperial Clipper up from storage so that we can take the command staff out in style. I walk to our room and get out of my Remlok suit. I've been in this thing all day and am ready to relax a bit.
Since arriving in Colonia on Saturday morning. I have managed to meet with all 4 of the local engineers and have them working on various upgrades to my ships. The project ship that Jean and I spec'd out on the trip out here is coming along nicely. The "Rat-Trick" as I am calling it for now is a marvel of modern engineering. Getting a ship as large as an Anaconda to jump more than 80ly at a time and still carry rescue equipment for stranded commanders is quite an accomplishment. We are part way through the modifications and that's one reason why I have been meeting with the local engineers.
I have engaged in a few bounty hunting ops, have gone after a pirate and his crew as well so that I could get in good with one of the factions who would get me an audience with Mel Brandon which is one of the engineers I most wanted to work with. I did some mining yesterday as well. I have been busy but at the same time relaxed since we arrived.
We moved the Archangel over to the Ogmar system today. Located it in orbit with Whirling Station, which is a station and system controlled by the GalCop CDC, of which my squadron is a member. It's a beautiful, new high tech station and we have put the crew on port call since we have offloaded all of our passengers and cargo in the Colonia system. The carrier has been thoroughly checked after the trip out here and is in perfect shape and ready to continue our journey.
The carrier is quieter than normal as everyone but our watchstanders are headed off the ship for some R&R, only the constant coming and going of the Apex shuttles are really making any noise. Most are taking their liberty at Whirling station some are out sightseeing in other systems.
I did some osmium mining so that one of the engineers could make modifications to my ships, and ended up with a lot more of it than needed along with a bunch of other materials that we put up for sale in the ships market. Hopefully we can make a tidy little profit on that mining trip.
Jean has been traveling to see various ship systems manufacturers since we arrived as she is now freelancing ship system engineering, design and consulting. She set up a shop on the carrier to work so that she doesn't need to be tied to a station or planet anywhere. If we can pull off everything needed to get the Rat-Trick up to spec, she will have made some new breakthroughs in system design that should get her new business a lot of respect and more importantly, market share.
I get out of the shower and ready for bed, my loving fiancé climbs into bed and snuggles up next to me. Our cat Bella, jumps onto the bed and settles in next to Jean. So far so good on this first leg of our journey. It's nice to be in this new human area of space as it's focused on cooperation and just expanding the human experience. There are still bad elements and politics. But not nearly as bad as back in the bubble. It's as if a large weight has been lifted off our shoulders. Out here there is no Federation, no Empire, no Alliance and no Sirius Corporation. It's refreshing that none of that followed people out to this sector and it's just people trying to make a new life in a new place.
