What do you want from me?

01 Aug 2022Alira Lancel
What do you want from me? I might have been an Imperial Senator's brat, but let's just say the PR isn't there where I am literally the red-headed stepchild thanks to the rascal commander she met at a stunt flying show on Achenar 2. He used to visit me sometimes and take me flying here and there in his battered, old Cobra Mk III. We even discovered and catalogued a stratum on Lulus 5. He said it would always be mine as much as his, as one day I'd carry on the legacy if the Lady of Fate willed it. I never quite understood what he meant until one day he had stopped showing up, and then on my eighteenth birthday, I received a solicitation from Sue, Cripple, and Sneer.

It still didn't explain what had happened to him, but it wasn't relevant for them. All they knew was that he had set it up to where I was to be given 2000 credits, a Sidewinder, a Remlok, and a paid-for pilot's license training course on my eighteenth birthday. What did I have to leave behind? A bunch of jealous siblings because I was the eldest and born out of wedlock? A stepfather who hates the fact that I even exist? Sure mother did care for me, but we always fought over how she still wanted me taking her job when she retires. I wanted to see the galaxy, at least for a while. I was as much a rascal as my father had been, she said. Still she insisted me gallivanting the galaxy in a Sidewinder just wouldn't do.

So she threw me a shiny, new, and red Eagle Mk II and let me go. That was almost eight years ago. It's been a whirlwind since. I've been out to Sagittarius A*, seen Colonia be founded and developed, almost got killed on the Gnosis and countless other times. I fought pirates and terrorists and even a few legitimate governments, made first footfall on a hundred worlds, and I even made it to ELITE. Then I made sure it all went to my dad's legacy like he wanted, because eight years ago I registered my license under the same name as his.

As for my real name? I'm not sure it matters anymore. I don't like to talk about what happened on my mother's side after she died. After she was killed, and my stepfather absorbed her patrons. Suffice that I still have her sword, and just maybe one day it will finish what she started. If you want to call me by that anyway, then fine, it's not a name I am ashamed of, but it is a name that causes me trouble.
