Home Again

It's reassuring to be back in the comforting familiarity of Zaonce after finally leaving LHS 2936 behind. It was only one week, but it felt like an age, and there were just so many pirates - where did they all come from, and more importantly, why? They must have known about the security operation and the blanket kill order against them. Anybody with a criminal record and even a modicum of self-preservation would have avoided the area, but I saw precious little of that while I was there. The ones flying larger ships I could understand - at least sitting in a combat-fitted Python or Anaconda gives you a (largely false) sense of power and invulnerability, but the waves of inexperienced novices in stock Sidewinders or low spec Eagles hurling themselves at Thunder Child and falling before her lasers made me wonder why people who choose or fall into that lifestyle have next to no self-preservation instinct.
It's like moths to a flame, or flies to biowaste. It felt like digging a hole in loose mud - no matter how many ships you obliterated, how many hours you spent, how many bounty hunters you worked alongside, more and more pirates just kept falling into the hole.
Not that I'm complaining, I'm more than 60,000,000 Cr richer because of them, I just cannot comprehend why they would do it. I can only conclude that piracy must appeal to the more damaged members of society.
